Bush’s fault and Zero just hasn’t had time to fix it yet.
Consider the white collar jobs that have migrated to India, never to return. Consider the blue collar jobs that have migrated to China, never to return. Now consider the crappy paying retail jobs that emerged to replace them.
Then consider many of those retail jobs going away now. It is like the Middle Class is being herded into an economic kill zone, and then when they are all gathered in retail jobs, then the killing starts.
Negros can break an anvil...
...don’t make it harder than it is.
It’s called an adjustment. We have been overly retailed for a long time and now there is Amazon.
One word:
Slabfooboo.
With Amazon Pantry, one rarely needs to hit the grocery store anyway.
Couple that w/ ‘Ship to Store’, for a lot of places, and it’s in/out. No need to BROWSE and impulse shop. I think you’ll see small store-fronts for the big-name stores in the future. Shipped to & pick-up from. Nothing more.
B&M...going the way of the buggy whip.

I bought four trousers through Amazon in the past year, as it was the only way of getting the styles and sizes I wanted.
And with all the store closings, don’t forget about the tens of thousands of lay offs.
Here in Apex NC a new Cosco is opening in March and a Publix right after that. Around my little town we have Super Walmart, Super Target, Lowes food and hardware, Home Depot, Kroger, Harris Teeter, office Depot and 100s of Mom and Pops. I guess I’m blessed to live here and be able to survive.
I have three Wal-Marts near me with the furthest being only 7 miles. I have two Home Depots near me, one maybe 3 miles to the east and another 3 miles to the west as well a a Lowe's about a mile away.
Personally I think the closings are due to increased competition........
The depression continues.
We have 94 million work-capable Americans who no longer even look for a job and are not counted in Dear Leader’s propaganda ministry of unemployment. We have Obamacare draining money out of families as they have to shell out thousands of dollars for the useless insurance to pick up thousands of dollars of deductibles before the insurance even kicks in, in other words a heavy burdensome tax with no return. We have automation coming on hard and strong as struggling employers cut cost and eject the headache of Obamacare. We have a collective group of crony capitalists strip mining every company down to the bone (try finding anybody at these retailers to help locate an item), a trucking industry that is being buried by tracking and regulations from lawyers in DC causing the backbone of the trucker industry to retire, and we wonder why the shelves are empty.
This entire country is stuck on stupid. The people in charge will not relent. Combine that with the last seven years of doubling or tripling national debt and this is going to continue to contract like crushing a beer can.
Stores that are still open don’t carry the variety that they did in the past. More and more, we do our shopping online.
Liberal elite stores in malls without proper security - in a world filthed by elites...
Nah, I don’t want to shop in your stores anymore.
Prevue of the coming Communist/Socialist Utopia...........
THE WORLD IS ENDING!!!
(either that or Amazon is growing)
Not on your list, but Kohl’s is closing its oldest store in JCPenny’s hometown. Given the relative stealth of that closing, I have to wonder whether there aren’t other Kohls closed/closing/to be closed.
