The worst part? The first casualties were evac’d well after their golden hour.

From what I recall of the Texas Tower thing back in ‘66, one lone cop went into the twoer on his own initiative and finally took the shooter down.
But that was along time ago b4 the use of SWATs, whatever, and maybe my memory is coming from the movoe version of that incident.
But seems to me, back in the old days, the cop on the beat was more apt to do what needed at the time w/o calling for “backup.”
Times change...I’m sure these cops did well @ Vegas...things more complicated today for sure.

Excellent article.
Of interest is the large number of (erroneous) secondary reports of other shooters, and that this is not abnormal.

Thanks for posting. This is super info from a cop’s perspective. I sent to my son who is training to be a firefighter / EMT / Paramedic. Important info on coordination between cops and first-responder medical teams.

In 66 they knew it was one guy. These poor guys on the 32nd floor didn’t know if there were one or ten in that room. No need to rush the room if the guy quit shooting. They did the right thing. Wait for SWAT. IMHO. The guy quit shooting after about ten minutes.

This whole the the BSM is doing with “he was up there shooting for an hour” is BS.

reducing his visibility could save lives. setting up smokers a few floors down might do it. it might also get sucked into his room, forcing him to evacuate sooner

No, there were at least two people, although only one may have been a cop.

LVDP can`t fly. They have a $10 M helicopter but only used for search and rescue- I thought fire depts. did that stuff. They evidently do not have a computer model for 911 NYC scenarios wherein skyscrapers are targeted or snipe sources- Police helicopters should be used to combat crime first- you can`t rescue people if they are already dead-well duhhhh
I guess they never saw "True Lies" or "Kono takes the shot from a police helicopter - Hawaii 5-0" Maybe they should buy a used surplus jump jet from the Spanish Air force since they ain`t using the copter for police work anyway.

The modern system established after 911 of setting up Incident command has many great attributes. However like buffalo herds of old if the leader (Command) is not in place the other members of the herd are rudderless. Not a criticism just an observation.

I stayed up through the night and listened live. Recall these points. Others not mentioned are the possible suspect on the 4th floor.
So many questions... warning before shooting, guest in room, 2nd or more shooters, money sent overseas, trips to middle east, airplane registration that suggests link to intelligence community, repeated claim of affiliation with Islamic terrorists, the suicide note, the video, the video apparently streamed overseas, and what about ballistics? From the guns in his room only? (Okay, that last will be a long time, if ever in coming. Consider the lack of disclosure about the massacre of bikers in Texas where disclosure is clearly covering shootings by police.)

Also, according to what I've read, the police also credited civilians with rifles who helped to keep the shooter pinned down to prevent him from shooting more.
