Thank you PJ. I’ll pick up some up and try this
Small changes considering how long they've made that grill but very nice ones. I like the newspaper chimney starter too. Bought an electric charcoal starter for $8 bucks about 1982 and it still works just fine but yours works a lot faster and gets the charcoal burning more evenly.
I might have to make both upgrades after seeing your modern equipment at work! heh
I don’t know. The grate sags a little but isn’t burned through and the grill is in perfect shape. My father bought it about ‘68 and grilled a lot of stuff on it. I “inherited” it about ‘78 and have been grilling with it ever since.
I go through about 40+ lb.s of charcoal a year although I always shut all the vents as soon as the cooking is done to save on charcoal. That may account for the good shape of the grate and grill.
Charcoal? 40 pounds a year? I use use mesquite and use 50 pounds every month. you’re a lightweight, no wonder it lasted so long. Mesquite burns hotter that charcoal and that is the reason for my grates melting.
Are you in Broward? I went to La Ranchera #2 which is on the west side of State Rd 7, a block north of Commercial Blvd. There is La Ranchera #1 in Pompano Beach but I forgot where.
So what grill have you bought that stands up to that?
Haven’t found one yet. I am designing my own grill and trying to convince a manufacturer to make it for me.
Why hasn’t the Sheriff of Coward County been suspended, yet??????????
Ah, so the Weber is no worse than any other on the market!? OK. I guess if you abuse things by using them in unintended ways they don’t last long.
Having used approx. 2,000 lb’s of charcoal in my grill with no damage to it is good enough for me.
Oh, and if you or any other local Freeper picks up the Pollo Rojo at La Ranchera and smokes it, please let me know how you like it. BTW, they don’t have a name for it at La Ranchera other than as simple pollo (chicken) but you can recognize it due to the red marinade and price ($1.29/lb). Just go to the meat counter where they have a lot of different types of meat marinating in that mojo.
You keep the kettle, lid and legs which last forever. You buy a new charcoal grate and cooking grille. The parts are available everywhere.
My first Weber lasted about 35 years. I only got rid of it because I had dropped the lid and kettle knocking off chunks of the enamel finish. We are about ten years into Weber #2.
Ours sit outside year ‘round, too. Fantastic products.
Looks really good. I ditched my propane grill for a Webber about three years ago and havent looked back. Much tastier meat and the ability to slow cook or smoke just adds to the mix, how are the bass in that backyard lake of yours?
This week, of all weeks, you had to look up where Broward County is????????
It looks tasty.
I am waiting for feedback from any Broward Freepers who pick up the same chicken at La Ranchera and smoke it as I did.
You can buy new grills for it.
50lbs a month Wow. I’ll go through 200lbs a year, But I grill and barbeque year around even when it’s cold and snowy on a custom homemade built stainless steel barrel.
