In the late ‘40s there were only 3 neighbors who had TVs in my neighborhood. In the Summer, one of them would let about a half dozen of us young denizens into her house to watch the Flash Gordon serial on TV in the hot afternoons.

We were entranced. That was when the space ships were spewing out sparks when they were flying.
