I don’t disagree. He as a genuine hero in WW2 - and nothing that he did afterwards can undo that. However, much like McCain (though more so because he had much more power and time), his political career was a disaster for this country. He embodied the political establishment of this country, which has collectively sought to increase their own power and wealth at the expense of the American people and of all of the ideas underlying this country. They are a traitor class, and his New World Order nonsense is the epitome of what they wish to obtain and shove down our throats. With regard to Israel, which I know you care about as do I, he was another disaster. He was more than willing to sacrifice is real on the altar of oil money from the Arabs, and that is not what he was elected to do, nor was throwing a democracy to the Moslem wolves the right thing to do. Frankly, I despise pretty much everything that the man did. Oh, he did it with good manners, but other than destroying Iraq’s armed forces and allowing the Soviet Empire to continue to crumble, there is precious little good that he did from my perspective. The mere fact that he allowed a reversal of Reagan’s policy on so many issues, and thereby paved the way for the Clintons, is enough to condemn him.

The entire point of my first post was that FReepers should not act like the DUmmies whom we regularly (and rightfully) condemn for their atrocious behavior. What is traditional in Western societies is to back off from personal criticism of a person who has just died, for a decent interval of time, because we are all human despite our differences and this is necessary for the family of the deceased.

But if you are both beyond constructive criticism and desirous of being like the DUmmies and other decency-destroying Leftists, then go right on doing what you’re doing.

FYI, just above this post (and more than 24 hours after his death) I condemned Bush the Elder, because his choices made him and his legacy deserving of it. I came to despise him, after having been fooled into believing that he had learned from Reagan. I’m of mixed emotions about him losing in 1992, because that loss gave us the Clintons, but he surely deserved to lose. I don’t care much for the politics of his offspring, either. But NONE of my feelings dismiss or invalidate the idea of a decent interval or simple decency.

How can I make it sound like this is my site if I was requesting of the actual owner that he consider a prospective action? I made it very clear that this isn’t my site or decision...but evidently facts and logic are optional for you.

FYI, I agree with you on the substance of your comments about Bush, because I am also conservative and was/am disgusted by what the man did on so many occasions, and about his attitude s toward this country, it’s ideals and it’s people. I’m simply in disagreement with you about the timing of the (well-deserved) condemnations that Bush received here. We should NOT be trying to out-do the DUmmies in a “How nasty and disgusting can you be?” contest. You can see my comments in #61 and #62.

WRT your comment about not wanting to be one of my kids, rest assured that I am happy you’re not - because at least my kids are open-minded enough to accept constructive criticism. It is, indeed, true that just because you CAN do something doesn’t mean that you SHOULD do it. That you cannot accept this simple truism speaks to your (lack of) maturity and humility.

In answer to your comments:. First, I am not Christian, so I don’t hold by what Jesus said (or what his followers said that he said), not unless what was said is actually morally correct. Specifically WRT your statement that...

“WHat is “negative comment”, to speak truth or to say nice things avoiding truths?”

...my response is that maybe you should take a deeper look at the foundations of your own faith. Jesus was, after all, Jewish. He also said (and I am paraphrasing here) that not one bit of the Law (meaning the Torah, the 5 Books if Moses) should be disregarded until it us fulfilled. One part if that Law is the prohibition against “lashon horah” (gossip). Under that law, one is not permitted to speak I’ll of others EVEN IF WHAT YOU SAY IS TRUE.” The basic reason behind that prohibition is that gossip destroys a community... though, of course, the mere fact that God prohibited it is sufficient reason to avoid it, human reasoning notwithstanding.

A decent interval was all that I called for, nothing else, so that we could avoid becoming like the decency-destroying DUmmies and other Leftists. Why would any of us want to emulate them?

I understand quite well your comments and to a degree sympathize with them. I am 72 years old. In the world I grew up on the sentiments you expressed were accurate
and most people adhered to them.
Over the years, particularly in the last
few decades, adherence to what were once
connsidered normal cultural behaviors have steadily deteriorated.

Since Donald Trump ran for office, the magnitude and degree of hatred, viciousness and crudity directed at him, his family and supporters has exceeded all precedence. Even the ire directed at Lincoln stopped at him and was not extended to his family.

Ivanka attended John McCain’s funeral and had to sit through a series of insulting attacks directed at her father by the speakers there.

Not ONCE has ONE SINGLE RINO struck back at these attacks. ON THE CONTRARY, the Bushes broke with all prior precedence in attacking a sitting President of their own party and sided with the Democrats. Even the FAMILIES of the Bushes chimed in.

I have had it with these people. The Dems, RINOs and Media. In my mind it’s open war with them with no prisoners. They are the enemy.

I understand what you are saying and agree with you in philosophy.

But given the current state of affairs here, I can’t bring myself to agree in practise.

I hope you understand as you are of the same political view.

I absolutely do understand your point of view. I am 57, and even in my time what is going on now would have been inconceivable. That is what I am recoiling against, and that is what I am trying to prevent Free Republic from becoming.

On the other hand, I have also had it with the RINOs. They are worse than the Democrats in many regards, because at least you can see the Democrats coming. They are the enemy outside of the gates. The RHINOs are the traitors inside of the gates that Cicero warned us against. I’m disgusted with their lack of vision, their selfishness and their cowardice in enabling the progressive state to come to power, and to even maintain that power when a supposedly conservative Administration comes into office. They have put their own narrow interests, political and otherwise, ahead of the American people.

I fully understand and agree with what you are saying about it being time to take off the gloves. I just question whether doing so in the immediate aftermath of a person’s death, like the Left does, is the wisest course of action. Note that it is no longer in the immediate aftermath. I despise these people as much as you do, and it is for this reason that I love the fact that Donald Trump constantly triggers them and calls them out. I would like to see their power reduced to an absolute minimum, and a newly invigorated Republican party, with a staunch pro-American point of view, develop and become effective. I’m not sure that this is possible, given how far things have gone, but it is what I would like to see.

Best FReegards to you. Let’s stop with the circular firing squad, and turn the guns to our mutual enemies.

BTW, sorry for some of my comments to you. I was a bit ticked, at your comments and those if others, and I let it get to me. Shouldn’t have happened, I will try to learn my lessons from this.

I am going to scream with all these eulogizing threads.

I agree. Much of it is disingenuous as well. I didn't see one second of the McCain funeral coverage (side benefit of having no cable TV) but I hear it was ponderous beyond belief, attended by many who "praised him" but were happy to shove a knife in his back when he was running for president against their beloved Obama back in 2008.

Personally, I don't grieve a whole lot for people who live to be 94 years old. When my beloved grandmother passed away a few years back who was around the same age, I was happy that she was finally out of her misery (her last few years were not pleasant) and took note of the fact that for nearly 90 years, she had a mostly wonderful life.

All of us are going to have our time to die. When you get past say 70 years old and you are still in good health, consider yourself in bonus territory and savor every day of it.

I heard that Barbara Bush’s hair turned white when her young Daughter succumbed to Childhood Leukemia.
