The poison pill re: limits on ICE detentions was inserted, obviously, to force DJT to reject the deal, force a shutdown or declare a national emergency. He can’t sign it because of the poison pill , under any circumstances.
Declare victory, take what you’re given, then fight again next year. You don’t score a touchdown on every play, but when you get a first down, that’s a win. He’s gotten a lot of money for border security. It takes time to implement the spending anyway, and in 8 months it’s time for another spending bill, probably a long CR, so that spending is really two years’ worth.
