Russians in Crimea were pissed that the Crimean Tatars were returning. About 250,000 came back after Ukraine independence. Russians hate the Crimean Tatars. Russia began expelling them under the Tsar after the Russo-Turkish War. The Soviet Union deported the rest. Many Tatars began fleeing after the Russian annexation.

I had an old high school buddy that is, a Lt. Colin the U.S. Army, that was sent to Ukraine capital city for about 1 year. Now I know what he Was up to.

The principal religion of the Crimean Tatars is Islam, and as Muslims they are Sunnis of the Hanafi school.
