John Glenn was a pilot and patriot of extraordinary skill in the air. His skills exceeded most of his fellow pilots that were most skilled. He was a pilot to admired for his skill, bravery and service, was John Glenn. A great man was John Glenn the pilot. He laid his ass on the line in battle and won with honor.

As a politician he was simply a political whore. It has always puzzled me how such a great man became so ordinary or even less.

He kinda reminds me of John McCain with the exception that John McCain was a “piss poor pilot.” John Glenn was a good pilot.

Relative to John McCain he did also lay his ass on the line as a bomber pilot for which he should be honored. John McCain also endured particular extreme torture due to the fact his father was commander of the naval forces in combat with North Vietnam. McCain did “talk” and this is of no relevance. He endured the extreme of the extreme and did acquit himself with honor. Give me just a few hours and time and I can make you say anything I want. That is what the honorable Captain McCain endured and also succeeded to when faced with death.

Captain McCain is a man to be honored and respected in the extreme. I wish I were half the man Captain McCain was.

Senator McCain was a political whore of no honor.

I was a huge Glenn fan until he traded a vote to save clinton for an old buzzard trip into space.

Briefly, Colonel Glenn, both as a Marine aviator and a NASA astronaut, was a hero and an honorable man. The person who sneered at his military service as being just another government job is a shameful lout.

Senator Glenn was a dirtbag of the worst sort; a disgrace to the disgraceful US Senate. I voted against him more than once. Of Senator Glenn, I have nothing good to say.

Glenn also shut down the hearings in the Senate looking into Chinese campaign contributions to Slick Willy for his last ride in space.

No thanks.

He and Sully did their jobs, and then sold out America.

FAR too late for that. Glenn chose his legacy.

PLEASE let’s not make this comment thread about Glenn’s politics.

Then we will just make it about his corruption.

When I was a kid, John Glenn was like Mickey Mantle. Walked on water.

Well, IMO his later behavior is what counts and what I will remember the most. He pissed away all the good. For what?

A man without honor is not a man of any worth. That will always be true regardless of how acceptable dishonor has become in western society.

Captain Songbird McCain sold out his country long before some people realize he did.

Captain Ace McCain has no respect ever from me and deserves none.

I support President Trump’s animus against the POS Hussein Head.

I was attending Muskingum College when Glen made his space flight. It was a dry campus in New Concord, OH, and was his home town. They brought him back to the college to give him an honorary doctorate. I thought it was really something, until I found out he had been expelled for drinking. Seems the famous are treated differently...perhaps similar to what’s keeping Hillary out of jail.

Very impressive turn of the phrase there. Well stated!

Yes, it does ruin men. Glenn has disgusting periods in his life. This slideshow is about the positive aspects of his life.

My list would include:
George Washington,
William Clark,
Benjamin Franklin,
Chuck Yeager,
Buzz Aldrin,
Whitey Herzog,
David Hackworth,
John Glenn,
George Patton,
Winfield Scott.

But someone brought up Amelia Earhart and that also would be interesting. Honorable mention would be Erin Andrews because she knows a lot about sports.

Man if we could make planes that could still survive and work with 250 bullet holes in them.

A-10s are the closest thing we’ve got and they do pretty eell.

Although I wouldn’t learn much from discussing the Constitution with Glenn or marital fidelity with Mantle, I would love to talk space, jets, and baseball with them. Both were flawed men — we all are. Glenn’s politics absolutely stunk, to be sure. But I won’t throw out a truly remarkable story of a man who gave years of his life for our country because of his politics.

Never understood....perhaps never will how this great American could be a Democratic.

Think of what he could have been/done if he had made better choices.

What a waste....

There was a lot that Kennedy did that would be right of the establishment Republicans, but he did a lot that mirrored Obama: spying on opponents, weaponizing government agencies, wiretapping public figures... another highly flawed man.

On the subject of Kennedy’s man-whoring, which includes an underage East German spy, I recently heard LBJ slept around with a lot more women than Kennedy. And unrelated, but LBJ’s own historian said his Silver Star (Johnson served as a Naval officer during World War II) was the most undeserved Silver Star in military history.

I really do understand what you are saying - and in a way I can agree. I had my say. I can only finish with stating that I believe my attitude is not based on politics.
