Much as Id like to see that, Id rather see a national debate that demonstrates to the world the unequivocal failure of Marxist socialism once and for all.
I have always thought that was the debate that needed to happen - free enterprise vs. socialism/Marxism - to stick a fork in socialism once and for all - finally put that matter to rest.
But recently, Im convinced that this is all a smokescreen. Both sides know socialism doesnt work - but whichever economic model a political party advances, no matter how stark the political contrast, no matter which side wins, we get a continuation of a corrupt deep state bureaucracy that is neither socialist or free enterprise - its just corrupt.
The real battle is between
1) a deeply entrenched unelected bureaucracy, fraught with corruption, influence peddling and self dealing, vs.
2) an honest constitutional republic that protects individuals from a corrupt central government.
The real conversation we need to have has nothing to do with which economic principles work better. The real conversation should be about the fact that there is a fake news monopoly lying to the American people 24/7 about the rampant corruption that is Washington DC.
While we are distracted by debates about socialism vs capitalism, we are being lied to and cheated on a massive scale by a on entrenched bureaucracy that doesnt care who we elect every four years or whether they call themselves a socialist or a capitalist.
