After I got divorced in 09, the name of the game was to get back out there and meet women, rebuild my confidence and get laid. I had no interest in another marriage especially after the court system wrecked me. And there were plenty of women who wanted the same. Eventually, I was ready to settle back down and I met my wife 3 years ago and we were both on the same page. You find what you are looking for when you are ready for it.
Do they mean, hooking up? I think dating has gone the way of the pony soldier.

There’s what I call “The Fart Test”, if you are comfortable farting around her, and she doesn’t mind, that’s when you know it’s time to think about getting married to her.
Now, if you give her the “Dutch Oven” and she stays, she’s definitely a keeper!
1970’s: dating
2000’s: say ahhh.
The “dog face pony soldier”??
Anyone remember going steady?
As for a man with a marriage urge, there is that old suggestion: Just find a woman that you really, really hate and buy her a house.
in before the american woman bashing begins
I had a few people over the house, this hot young chick says to me:
HOT CHICK: Whos house?
ME: Mine
HOT CHICK: WOW nice house!
ME: Thanks
HOT CHICK: Do you have a girlfriend?
Yep that really happened.
————Did she get the house?
Nope, I already had a girlfriend. And she fishes+++
> HOT CHICK: Whos house?
> ME: Mine
> HOT CHICK: WOW nice house!
> ME: Thanks
> HOT CHICK: Do you have a girlfriend?
SHOULD-BE-YOU: “Go for a test drive”?
Your a little late to the conversation. But yeah.
Going steady, letter jackets, dinner and a movie, heck, we used to actually talk for hours on the phone! (You hang up, no, you...) This was when there was only on phone in the house, mind you.
Do kids still get “butterflies”? This one little red haired girl in 9th grade!!!
My parents didn’t teach me this per say, although I was raised as a practicing Christian and it took.
When I went out on my own at 18, I found I wasn’t interested in “making out” or “hooking up” with random women. By the time I was 21 I knew by the end of the second date whether or not I was interested in pursuing a relationship and if I wasn’t, I didn’t go out on any more dates with that woman.
My parents actively questioned if I’d ever get married because I dated a lot but never had a long-term relationship...until I met my eventual wife when I was 26.
No doubt there have been times over the years that I have questioned whether or not I should have married her; likewise she’s asked herself the same about me! But, our commitment to the marriage and our children acts as the cement during tough times and I think that’s why the act of getting married (vs. having 4 children with 3 different baby daddies, or cohabitation) is so important in the stability of society. You tend to work out your problems for a longer period of time rather than just walk away.
One phone in the house— a black one.
Everybody could hear everything.
How did my boyfriend afford a steak dinner and movie on a part time job? The good old days.
I’m sure we didn’t date. Steak? Uh-uh, pizza.
They were good old days!
Yes, steak once in a while. There were the dates at the ice cream shop in town. Just like in Ozzie and Harriet. Driving around in the GTO listening to Three Dog Night on the 8 track.
Happy Days.
I couldnt agree more with your last paragraph.
My wife and I have always been a rock to my children. They never heard their mother or I talk about leaving or giving up.
Blessed we are friend.
I think its a stereotype that females are immediately sizing up their dates as marriage material and that males dont.
Agree. I think it’s pretty much the same between the sexes. Most often the ladies are looking for Mr. Right Now when they are dating. Little different than what men are looking out for.
