She says that now?

Good example of “ I got mine, so, - go fish!”

What she really means, is that it would be wrong to stop further regulating against working class people in the effort to stop them from rising to compete.

How big of her. Loathsome Lefties always give advice to others, and exempt themselves.

It's not right for individuals to accumulate a massive amount of wealth that's equivalent to millions and millions of other people combined," Jobs told the Times. "There's nothing fair about that.

Wealth is material goods made by man. It is also land and natural resources in the ground insofar as man has made them useable and accessible. Because man possesses he faculty of reason, there is a limitless need and desire for wealth in a rational division of labor society, because it is necessary for the continued existence of life proper to a rational being, which means more than the subsistence existence of animals.

“Powell Jobs, the widow of Apple founder Steve Jobs, is one of the world’s most important philanthropists, overseeing a sprawling media, political, and charitable empire called Emerson Collective. And she plans to direct Emerson to give away her $28 billion in assets during her lifetime or shortly after her death” - https://www.vox.com/recode/2020/2/28/21157049/laurene-powell-jobs-philanthropy-children

It is axiomatic that the “Robber Baron” era is brought up, and how bad it was.

It begs the question. Robber Barons are infinitely preferable to incompetent government - it should be pointed out in any honest discussion that this period also the greatest development and rise of living standards yet seen in human history.

When the alternative is the lunatics particularly on the left deigning to declare what is “fair” like we see today, a Carnegie or Ford starts to look pretty damn good. And that’s the “choice” we seem to be forced with.

“Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience. They may be more likely to go to Heaven yet at the same time likelier to make a Hell of earth. This very kindness stings with intolerable insult. To be “cured” against one’s will and cured of states which we may not regard as disease is to be put on a level of those who have not yet reached the age of reason or those who never will; to be classed with infants, imbeciles, and domestic animals.”

C.S. Lewis

Despite that conviction, she justified her possession of her billions by saying she inherited it from her husband. But, she also won't pass it on to the next generation...

So basically she's keeping these so-called "ill gotten gains" for herself, but screw the kids.

Nice lady!

If she’s so philanthropic and egalitarian, she can have a large tract of small houses and a manufacturing plant started in her neighborhood. And if she’s so green, those houses can each include a clothesline outside.

the Rockefellers and Carnegies and Mellons and Fords of the world. That kind of accumulation of wealth is dangerous for a society.

Steve Jobs was unavailable for comment.

This woman is breathtaking in her hypocrisy. Give it away now, lady. As Obama would say “you didn’t build that.” As I believe she was wife number two, she wasn’t even there at the beginning to support it being built.

I’d like very much to read your thesis, or any other such on the topic.

Of late I’ve been mulling over an objective definition of “poverty”, a sort of “if you have this quantifiable baseline of nutrition, housing, energy, care, etc then you’re _not_poor_ regardless of ‘inequality’”. This in juxtaposition with supply-and-demand ratios of cost of essentials vs mundane/commodity labor wages, inevitable rise of cost of essentials under UBI, and fact that people with IQs under 83 (I’m sorry to say, just passing on US military conclusions) are functionally useless.

I’m sure you’ve put it together much better than I have.

In the case of the Fords, it sure hasn't helped the Detroit Lions.

Meanwhile, a year after Steve's death, she took ownership of the mega yacht he ordered:

Hey, Laurene, how about kicking me about a quarter mil of Steve’s accumulated wealth if it bothers you so much? I promise it won’t go to (just) booze - I got a laundry list here at home and you’d be my wife’s new BFF........

Reminder that Elon Musk is accumulating great wealth precisely to settle Mars (a very expensive prospect).
YOU (generic “you”) may not see the point in having tremendous riches, but some people need it to achieve great works for the betterment of mankind.
