I know from personal experience it is all for show:
* demands to wear the face mask when in a Zoom call, even if you’re alone in the office or at home
* demands to update social media profile photos to include a face mask
* criticizing people posting photos without face masks, even if it is an old picture or them alone
* uniform pressure to put borders on social media saying mask up, get the shot ...

It seems to me that there are more malicious liars now than there used to be, all spewing forth clouds of falsehood into the cognosphere. This would seem to mean that there are many more ill-informed people than there have to be.
