If he can machine stainless steel, I say he has a future in machining!
Folks with a 3d printer Can make pellet rifles that don’t need serial numbers, are perfectly legal, and depending on the caliber, pack enough wallop to down cape Buffalo and larger. (Though for the high pressure parts like the air chamber, you’d need metal parts fabricated I would think, they hold a tremendous amount of pressure)
There are some that turn a brick In to powder they hit so hard an fast. Lots of folks use them to hunt wild hogs. Perfectly legal, no permits required, no background check, no waiting period, can order them through the internet. Some even have clips that hold 5-15 or so rounds depending on the caliber. They have made some as high as .80 caliber, and shoot 900 or so feet per second, the slug is almost the size of 1/2 a golf ball.
These pellet rifles ain’t the pellet rifles we kids grew up with. They are serious tools for hunting big game. Lots of folks take them on safari hunts for everything fro cape Buffalo to smaller game animals. Truly awesome tools.
I bet they’re quieter than gunpowder-based rifles too.
I’ve looked a little bit into air rifles. Haven’t taken the plunge yet, but they seem interesting.
Sorta focused on 2 legged varmints right now, and for that, the more rounds the better.
But for 4 legged varmints, the limited capacity of an air rifle wouldn’t be as much of a problem.
You can also get that air rifle in full automatic.
Video of .30 caliber full auto.

Good job. He’s ready for his next project - an over/under 12 gauge.
i know they have BB full auto- not sure about pellets though? The BB gun one is pretty cool- not real powerful but I’d imagine would deter invaders plenty good if it was the only thing handy at the time- and they hold a lot of roudns of BB’s too-
doh- i shoudla read down a post lol- cool- will check that out later- thanks for hte l ink
THANKS for that link!- I have now found my air rifle!- What a cool gun! (I might get a .45 or .50 cal too, tho0ugh not same auto type of course)
American ingenuity bump.
5.56mm
I hope the teacher who approved this school project doesn’t get fired.
I have an off the shelf .177 Remington air rifle that performs as promised at 2700fps. It will penetrate most automobile doors built after the 90’s. It didn’t do crap against my 72 Power Wagon.
I have a fifty year old GUNS and AMMO magazine that showed a pistol and other firearms handmade behind prison walls. Even the ammo was completely handmade behind prison walls.
Good for him!!
My 6th grade science fair project was a technical discription and operation, disassembly and display of a 30-06 rifle cartridge with real life scary gun powder and primers and booletts displayed and explained.
2nd place over all but this was in the early 70s.!!
Thats a excellent pest controller for the back yard!!
To recognize his accomplishment, maybe he will get to visit the White House like “clock boy” during the Obama Administration. /s
Has he been arrested yet?
He might have to make a double-barreled shotgun.

Zowie! That’s rippin! mine goes to about 600 fps- pretty slow- but it will knock a squirrel into the next world- i wouldn’t trust it for any other game though- perhaps morning doves when in season, or pigeons if they become too much of a nuisance and threat (health threat, or threat by doing damage to a farm, or grain thieves or whatever), but I’d like at least a .22 for those really- .25 even better-
but a .177 at 2700? Might just be plenty for such situations-
