Holy cow that is crazy and she only knew by her eye going black otherwise she would not have known her artery was 99 percent blocked? Thank God she is OK..with my Mom it was a black spot, while she was bending down in the shower..she has cataracts has had it for a long time but she was more concerned about either a stroke or a detached retina her eye doc told her a long time ago any weird vision change come to see him immediately it might have detached but he said its totally fine and that she had a migraine, she is prone to migraines, sees the flashing lights and everything, sometimes in the middle of the night out of no where..sometimes can be related to her high blood pressure which she takes meds for

After my TIA, the Veterans hospital put me through every eye exam possible. I was amazed, and very grateful, for all the treatment I received.

I get them on occasion, totally at random and with nothing that I can figure as a trigger.

The first one scared the living daylights out of me and I went to the ER and they were very thorough and told me what it was.

Since then, I get them, and they are always the same. They start out in the center of my vision and then expand out to the outside in a crescent shape, and flicker in a black and white cross hatch pattern. Takes about 20-30 minutes start to finsh.

I have a shimmering effect in the far periphery of each eye. It is strongest when I go outside into the bright sunlight. After I have been outside for a few minutes, the the shimmering effect subsides - the shimmering effect might remain noticeable but not as bad. Sometimes I notice the shimmering indoors. Some days it is worse than others. This has been going on for years. My eye doctor says my retina looks fine. I’m older than 50.

I had one of those occurrences followed by a migrane, shortly before I was to take my draft physical. I did not tell the draft Drs about it since they would think I was making it up. The draft was ended in Jan 1973 two days before my draft notice was to be mailed out. I wanted to go but my dad was wounded at Anzio, Italy and said he paid the price for me. I didnt enlist and have regretted it ever since. I have the utmost respect for our veterans. God Bless Them.

“Yep. That’s mine too. I describe them as thunderstorms in my eye. Scary as hell the first time. Not just fuzzy. Big lightening bolts!”

Mine are similar. Like a persistent, crescent-shaped lightning bolt that SHIMMERS!

Again, I’m not a Doc but I’m pretty sure if your brain isn’t getting a good supply of blood any number of symptoms might pop up.

My wife’s scan was done in a Doc office - quick check? Good luck.

I thought they were called Fortification Syndrome. The first one scared me, until I read how common they are. And it is supposed to be brain based— not eye.

First it was Amlodipine 10mg but after about 2 years I started getting swelling in my feet and lower legs, plus it was not working all that great

Got fed up with that and complained.

Then I got Losartan 50mg + Hydrochlorthizide 12.5mg, all the swelling is gone and I range from 119 to 123 over 72 to 77.

My eye doctor recommended I cut back on coffee and caffeine and that did the trick for me.

I get them too once and a while. White jagged lines in the corners of my right eye.

Ocular migraines are a sign of reduced blood flow or a blood vessel spasm. It's not a serious condition. Just an annoying one.

I had a few about 9 months after starting Lisinopril. I had never heard of them before but had the exact same experience as many people on this thread: freaked out by flashes that dazzle your eyes, goes away in a half-hour.

Surprised how common this seems to be.

“My eye doctor recommended I cut back on coffee and caffeine and that did the trick for me.”

While I’m convinced my episodes were triggered due to a stroke during my open heart surgery, I began to log each occurrence to see if there was a trend. I found they almost always happened mid to late morning after a cup or two of coffee.

I didn’t even think to mention it until I saw your post!
