A couple years ago, John Deere did a field exhibition where they showed off their slash bundler. It goes out after the woods has been cut and picks up the slash and bundles it to be taken out and loaded onto trucks where it can be shipped to Bio-Mass co-generation plants to be used for fuel along with Natural Gas, etc, for the production of electricity.
This was around Bend Ore. To this day, he said he thinks that all those bundles are still laying on the ground there. Not enough money it for them.
You see, there is BIG BIG BIG money in fire fighting. up to 4500 bucks a day per machine whether the GD Machine is used or not on the fire. They also pay for your travel, the shipping of the machine to and from your place to and from the fire.
This spring I watched as they had a hired bulldozer on a small fire around here and it was run just two days. That dozer was on site for three weeks.
There is a guy up near Flagstaff who owns three tanker planes. He has a 7 thousand sq ft log home. Drives brand new ford F350 diesel pickups, wife has a jaguar and they own a 400 thousand dollar motor home.
All paid for by you and me.
Point is, they want those fires. All of them. Eff those who loose houses etc in those fires. As long as they can collect cash for being on those fires.
They also are sneaking around behind the scenes stopping logging.
Thinning trees will make the ones that remain stronger. I agree there is money being made, that’s always what is behind a problem that is not being solved. Clearing out the underbrush reduces fuel for the fires and allowing cattle and other livestock to graze eliminates the problem and provides food as well.
It is a real problem with the ranchers and timber industry people fighting the eco freaks and pyromaniacs.
Ranchers love it here in AZ when we go through and thin out the woods. More grass means more pasture.
And they are thinning out the woods here. They learned the hard way down here. I doubt they will ever learn in CA, OR and WA.
