Putin is panicking because
1. he’s not winning as easily as he thought his military could do - they outnumber the ukrainians 10 to 1 and are far better equipped, yet have not managed to take any city or hold the kyiv airport
2. the ukrainians are, surprisingly, becoming patriotic to defend Ukraine against Russia. They aren’t willing to give up Zelenskyy or become Russia
3. The moral on the ground among Russian troops and people are waning - they don’t understand why they are attacking a fellow East Slavic, Eastern Orthodox nation. They thought they would be welcomed as liberators, but they are treated as fascists.

I’d like it if that were true. But, Putin is not panicking and he is not going to lose and it will turn out that the heroic efforts of the Ukrainians are great wartime rousing cheers, but nothing that will stop Putin’s invasion.

If he’s still have the difficulty he’s supposedly having now 20-30 days in, then that might be a legitimate discussion. But not a few days into a war.

It is disheartening to see our reliable conservative commentators buying the MSM narrative of a panicked Putin on the edge of defeat hook liine and sinker.
Putin will occupy Ukraine and get what he wants, whatever that is. And, the emotions will run high in support of the poor Ukrainians who put up such a valiant defense. And, sadly, the Ukrainians will trade one crooked government for another.
Eventually, the Germans will cause the EU to back off so they can get some gas and, as usual we will be left looking weak and ineffectual.
but, then, Putin is willing to risk a land war at his border, NATO and the US, not so much.

Your optimism is charming but naive. Putin will not occupy Ukraine. He is certain to put the Eastern Ukrainian states in charge of a puppet state.
