I don’t believe GPS tractors can pick apples. Or things like strawberries, raspberries, cauliflower, etc. etc.. That's why the USA imports so much of that from Mexico, Peru, etc...
But robotics companies are working on speciality equipment for those, too.

OH Yes..and try getting those things fixed when they go bonkers.
Small farmers are saying to hell with this crap and buying older tractors for about 1/4 the cost and are able to repair them without a $1000.00 service call twice a month.

Lots of farmers are going away from John Deere because their "haul your harvester in to our service center so we can reset the code so you can finish harvesting" policy.
It will take a week.
Oh it is going to rain tomorrow and you will lose thousands of dollars if you do not get it harvested now?
Sucks to be you.
Buy our over priced crap peasant!

Since you are a farmer, how would this really effect you?

I don’t believe GPS tractors can pick apples.Well, your beliefs are wrong.
Not only can they pick apples, but almonds, olives, grapes and just about everything else.

Do not worry, my FRiends because all this farming is harmful to the environment.
Plants and insects raised, harvested and packaged in sealed buildings provides all the nutritional value a human requires without any of the water, emissions, fertilizer, etc.
1000 Australia schools are now serving chips made from insects to children...indoctrinating them into our new meatless, plant-less future.

There's a variety of Robotic Apple Pickers now.
I apologize for that last one.

Doesn’t it mean replace farm workers? As in illegal aliens.
This was my interpretation, too. Robots do the grunt work, replacing low-wage employees.
I've been tinkering with my own farm-robot designs, because I can't afford to hire help. My prototypes aren't anywhere close to the testing stage yet, but they'll get there eventually.

For someone who doesn’t know about farming… you seem to know a couple of things about farming.

I watch the farming Youtube channel Welker Farms. They’re harvesting now and good luck to an autonomous Combine navigating all of the issues they face.

Indeed, I still use two JD tractors from the 60’s.

The new automated equipment will tilt things in favor of large corporate operations who can afford the capital investment and spread it out over huge acreage.

So basically it’s a “Roomba” for farms.

John Deere for the multi-national corps.
Dear John for the family farm corpse.
