Replace tractor drivers with instrument techs and lots of them.
Get back to me on how that turns out.
I’m not a Luddite or generally a Malthusian though I do thunk we have way too many unproductive and unfulfilled people on the ball for the good of the others, but I’ve seen a lot that doesn’t work out as planned. Complexity is not the friend of reliability and not all things that are possible are either necessary or a good idea.
Re replacing farm workers:
I don’t think the combine is going to pick fruit anytime soon. Isn’t this for row crops, which have limited field labor already?
I assume the ‘owners’ will be forbidden to do repairs on their robots too.
Heck, watching those videos makes me wish I was a farmer.
No, you will be baby sitting even more complex systems.
Yeah. Who’s going to pick all dat cotton now?
Missy Pelosi sez we gotta have dem illegals pickin’ de crops.
I was watching a youtube farm channel called ‘Millennial Farmer’ this week and they were working on a John Deere combine and soybean header and a circuit board they needed replaced for the header was $1,200
Good thing the youtube ad money and merchandise sales they have brings in a few hundred thousand a year.
There has got to be a huge upcoming market for “luddite” vehicles and equipment.
The only thing that would kill that would be government. I can see government killing it, “for the people” of course. (Which means they are lining their pockets from corporations that make money on autonomous vehicles & equipment).
I bet if you track the Deere private jet fleet, you’ll find at least one carrying Jorge Heraud to Davos, Switzerland at least once a year.
That’s what “Cash for Clunkheads” was for.
My sister and brother-in-law turned in a car that was worth far more than the government gave them.
And they thought that made them smart.
LOL. Yeah, some sadly fell for it. But seriously, I’ve got vehicles that are all more than 10 years old. No fancy crap that I don’t need. Start, run, go. Tractors and combines need to start, run, operate, go. Fancy crap not needed for the vast majority of farmers.
Have always purchased used vehicles - no need for bells and whistles. Am content with simplicity.
Whether you can imagine it or not, it will happen. The elites have already figured that they won't need the peons for much longer. Forty years ago I figured that manual labor would no longer be required and wondered how the government would be able to cut the peons in on the deal? Being naive I still contemplated they would try to cut us in on the pie, I no longer suffer under any such delusional thought and anyone who paid any attention the last two years shouldn't either.
They already do.
I’ll just have to either:
a. Learn to code (no golf),
b. Sell my land to Bill Gates (and play golf), or
c. Go on the dole (and play golf)
