I would put Pele first.
It’s a bit unfair to Best and even Cruyff, because they never won a WC. But I would have those two and then Maradona.
Maybe I would put Messi 5th on the list.

If Ferenc Puskás didn’t have to be in a country behind the Iron Curtain, he probably would have also gotten more consideration for being the GOAT.
I would agree with that statement wholeheartedly. As I said on another thread, Pele made me pay attention to, and then love, the beautiful game.

I remember that movie. The great Polish player Kaz Deyna (RIP) was also one of the players in that movie.

Adam Sandler had a comedy album in 1993, and one of the skits was Right Field. He’s awful, and at one point he kicks the baseball, causing a frustrated teammate to yell sarcastically, “Way to kick it in, Pele!”
I thought it was so cool that Pele had such a legacy - he was being referenced over 20 years after his retirement, and young people like me who didn’t even follow soccer got it.
That to me is equivalent to a high-school basketball player scoring 30 points and having a triple-double in games 5, 6, and 7 of the NBA final series.
Yeah I remember that debacle too. Didn’t watch it with any Brasilians though....
