Well said!
The problem with trying to consider divorce percentages in first time marriages is that they can’t. Reason for divorce is way too broad in the reasons and never simplified in the actions of the two.
According to research from 2013, Trusted Source, these are some of the most common reasons for divorce:
lack of commitment
infidelity, extra-marital affairs
financial problems
getting married too young
high conflict/ too much fighting
communication issues
substance misuse
domestic violence
lack of support from family
little or no premarital education
religious differences
And every one of them is related to the couple and their decisions, not family or friends if they are not part of the equation. So who determined those decisions right or wrong? The couple. And the only one that really means anything is communication issues. That’s what destroys a marriage.
If you can talk, you can work together and figure out what’s right for you two...period. You can’t wait for it to go away, you can’t allow it to fester, you can’t allow it to get worse as any of those will attack each other so you pow wow now, not later when it makes it harder to clean up.
Some of you will ponder what makes me the know it all of marriage problems. In late June this year it be our 50th wedding anniversary and we are better than we were in 1973. I’d be a liar if I said we didn’t have differences. But a little communication and concern always helped us clean it up. And this is where the prying education system, along with the family inputs, fails as it is geared to tell them what to do, not consider the possibilities and let them decide for themselves. Both our kids are with their first marriages and are doing well. We will not say anything unless they ask and they communicate. It is the answer to anything if one gives it a chance.

Sorry for what sounds like some very bad experiences you must have had. My very American, lovely and Catholic wife from the Midwest and I have been married 41 years, with 4 children and 13 grandchildren.
So awesome!! Very proud that he isn’t ashamed of his faith.
38 years, 3 children, 1 grandchild, and one more on the way.
Absolutely bad advice. It may be possible for young men to find loyal women in foreign countries but here in America the odds of finding a women that will go the distance is damn near zero.
I know some good young women from church, but they aren’t sexy, and don’t get a lot of guys asking them out. If a guy were to befriend one of these woman first, and then consider the attractiveness angle with the bigger picture in mind…. But how many guys do that?
He’s the first two-time Catholic I ever heard of.
Nailed it.
“Two time Catholic” = prodigal son 2.0
I would take an ugly, confident chick that was loyal no problem.
👍
