Plant a bunch of non native unmanaged species, landscape with fuels that readily burn at 200% moisture content, add hurricane force winds, and you are off to the races any time any place.
I have been on fires that were, at times, burning 3-5 football fields a second. This stuff is not unprecedented, it is not unusual, given the right elements.
