According to Barbara Tuchman in her wonderful book "A Distant Mirror" about the 14th century, the Black Plague remained in a town for a summer, a winter and then another summer. It hit the vulnerable, and then was gone. The fact that the authorities are still playing with Covid means that either modern interventions are inferior to medieval medicine, or that Covid is something other than a disease.
