LOL! That message has fallen on deaf ears since before President Reagan’s presidency. And no hearing aids have ever been invented that can overcome that deafness! President Trump’s best opportunity to destroy the GOP was directly following the obviously stolen election. Of course he didn’t, and we’ve all been suffering the consequences ever since.
Basically take any conservative Republican and run him as a Democrat. Unlike Trump’s annual suicide pact, it might have a nonzero chance of success.

If the other person attacks you first, you don’t react/respond to the attack, and elevate them by replying to their immediate attack.
If you decide at some later time on your own timetable, to jab them with something light and funny like this, you aren’t responding/reacting to anything specific, and there’s no problem with that. Especially when others are also jabbing them.
