Remember the F-22’s FIRST AA kill was against a Chinese spy balloon. This kill was for an Air Supremacy Fighter. How will a lowly Air Superiority Fighter ever keep up????

Will it be equipped with the “Mishap” feature and fly away on its own?

Anything with a cockpit will be obsolete.
You can’t have high performance and keep a pilot alive.

Looks like they still have that stealth hang up. That has pretty much run its course, especially 20 years from now. There’s no way that increases an air frame capability in the stealth department once every 20 or 25 years can compete with the advance in micro processors, quantum computing etc. and their affect on air defense missiles.

F-35 was never designed or presented as an air superiority fighter. It’s a replacement for the f-16, not the f-22. Even so, it has completely dominated air combat exercises, since everyone else is flying 4th gen fighters. Like the f-22, the NGAD will be produced in small numbers. 200 per the linked article.

Why would the fighter jet of the future have a cockpit?
With today’s technology, it should be able to do everything without a pilot. Or, perhaps it’s meant to keep the cockpit idea alive for the next “Top Gun” Cruise movie?
But, the cockpit on that rendition is meant to steer the would-be spies in the wrong direction, and there won’t be a cockpit.

Yeah. LIke how to over spend and under deliver even more this timeThat USAF strategy worked supremely well for the F-15 and F-22. They kept to the specs and the mission and omitted all of the "multi mission capability" bulls#!t that always creeps in.
It can be done if the pilots and maintainers make the decisions, not the politicians.

If they’re already looking for the Next Generation Air Dominance plane, why did they make the F35?The F-35 was never billed as an air dominance fighter. It is a multi role replacement for several types.
