No, it’s that guy who used to be with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission or whatever it was — one of Biden’s trannies.

Obviously this writer does not remember travel before 911 where it was open access to terminals, I don’t recall it being any worse than now.

That was going to be my point - I remember waiting AT THE TERMINAL for my friends flight to come in... and walking my girlfriend TO THE TERMINAL as we waiting for her flight to take off.

Madness.

To paraphrase Benjamin Franklin, Those who give up essential liberty for temporary safety deserve neither.

Nowadays opening up the entire airports in major cities risks hordes of homeless living inside the terminal; flash mobs and shoplifters killing the businesses

In the real world, we may have to follow that model more often. We need to be like Costco, you have to be a member to shop here. To enter the mall, you have to have the membership card, you scan your card when you go in front. The entrance will be manned by many security guards. Teenagers can't go by themselves during weekends.

If crime continues to get worse, Walmart may have to follow that model. We have the technology for it.

Commercial aviation is a non-viable venture, completely dependent on taxpayer subsidies. As fewer taxpayers can pay up, the airport operators are fighting over the same shrinking pool of funds, and getting desperate to find ways to raise revenue.

The government doesn't want to close airports because it's the final nail in the coffin of a dead geographic area. After that, the airports become the grounds for the Cargo Cults, where primitive people build objects and perform rituals in the hope that outsiders will deliver them modern things.

I agree, LGB was a nice airport, it was my LA airport of choice when I could unfortunately AA cut back on their flights. I remember several times my bag being at baggage claim after the short walk from the tarmac, there were no jet bridges.

And just walked across the street to the rental cars, no bus.

Most of your better cruise lines employ security to keep these types away from their passengers over a certain entry/exit zone.

Guess where they aren't allowed to do so? If you said liberal run American cities, then go to the head of the class.

My husband and I were on a Jet Blue flight, from Boston to Fort Lauderdale, a few years ago. Before we boarded there was a lot of activity on the tarmac and we had no idea what was going on. We soon found out when we boarded. There was her highness Nancy Pelosi seated on the plane. There is no first class flying that route so she had to sit with the peons. No one could deplane when we landed until she was escorted off the plane. Imagine our shock that she didn’t fly private.

As speaker she arranged her personal use of an airforce 757 to fly herself to and from SFO and Washington National (Reagan) and anywhere else she wanted to go.

Shield Jackson Lee causes quite the ruckus on common carriers. She is usually flown by corporate interests. That’s one of the reasons corporations fly private jets. That being to provide VIP transport for politicians. That’s been going on for 40+ years now.

I'm shocked she didn't just use her broom.

Having grown up in the shadow of Logan Airport, I used to go there all the time. On rainy days, I'd walk through the terminals, returning abandoned luggage carts (to collect the quarter deposit) and check payphone banks for loose change (I usually found some). Mostly though, I sat by the windows watching the planes land and take off. In fact, when planes were in a landing pattern over my house, before leaving, I'd copy in a notebook the arriving flights from the monitor, then would go home and check them off as they came in over my house. This was WAY before the internet and flight apps existed.

When my children were growing up, I'd take them to the airport to spend the day. They loved to see the planes land and take off as well and we'd eat at one of the many airport restaurants.

Nowadays, it's just too expensive to do that. A few months ago, I took a flight out of JFK to San Diego. I ordered a double vodka tonic (my pre-flight custom) and was charged $32. On the way back, I ate breakfast at the San Diego airport and that was over $30 as well.
