It’s actually not about YOU getting the text. It’s about testing the system—to make sure it works correctly. You know as well as I that if the cel tower you are on at the time doesn’t send out the signal they folks running the test will find out and correct the problem.
I’ve managed emergency communications systems for a group of hospitals. It’s amazing how many people dont understand how these systems run. That’s because of turnover and a lack of training or managerial attention. But when there is a crisis…the lack of testing becomes obvious.
As an example, we recently had a boil water notice for our city. The hospital was trying to communicate with its staff that they should not drink the water or use it for patients. The management team wanted to convey this to employees BEFORE they came in so they could bring their own water if they wanted to. No one knew how to run the system because the people who did had left and no one ever took the time to learn it, maintain it, or test it.
That caused a lot of problems and the loss of a ton of management hours.
Now imagine that on a national level or at least a regional level.
The minute of disruption is worth the knowledge.
Anyone thinking this is nefarious or stupid has probably never been in a real large emergency situation. (They aren’t all nuclear war!)
Comcast does that once a week in the middle of General Hospital here. I dont notice. My wife does….and she is supposed to be working when she does. Ha Ha.

About a month ago I had one of those “Lord I need a break from all the gloom and doom” moments (prolly after reading FR for a little too long that day!)
So I close the browser, shut off the computer and head outside to the garden mumbling to God something about needing my feet to stay on the ground, feeling like going a little batty,yadda yadda. I’m sure plenty here can identify to some degree. I’m also sure many have asked God “am I seeing this as it really is or seeing what I want?”
Anyhoo I grab my phone turn on Spotify hit shuffle ( over 70 songs on list)and the first song that plays...”eve of destruction “
After chuckling at the irony for a few seconds I realise the very next song is “knocking on heavens door”
It sure makes one wonder...what are the odds?
