I have read about this for years as how the US Govt does evacs.
the U.S. State Department’s Consular Affairs Crisis Management System (CACMS) has left many American citizens hanging in the wind, demanding them to sign promissory notes as a precondition for any assistance in evacuating from the crisis-hit region.

The same government that welcomes illegals from enemy states and houses them in hotels, gives them money, and wishes them well.
Hopefully the free cell phones are being used to track them.
I bet people here are more upset about it than the actual people being billed. An insignificant expense in the scheme of things to get out of there!

Afghans and illegals fly for free. It’s my understanding in situations like this they do expect reimbursement at commercial airfare rates. Promissory notes, I don’t know if they routinely do that. Stupid political move in any case.
Simply log into https://pay.gov and fork over your money.

It’s GP, so accuracy especially between the headline and the article , aren’t neccessary.
It states in the article that the US will get people out of Israel and bring them to a safe country. Then, it’s up to the people to make their own arrangements to get back home. If people are unable to afford to pay themselves for those arrangements, the govt will loan them the money to so. That’s my interpretation and it seems fair.

So far, the State dept has been very slow to offer help to Americans there, just as they were in Afghanistan, Ukraine, Sudan.

We have paid a lot of taxes, and one of the promised benefits were that your government will bail you out in distress, free of charge.
Obviously government reneged on its promises again!
We were once stuck in Europe during emergency, and it was really painful to arrange for evacuation.
