Streaming services see rising churn as 'serial cancelers' seek value for money

What a concept.

Note to Hollyweird: My offer still stands. If you ever jerk your heads from your backsides, I'll be happy to go through your slush piles. I used to love to watch some tube.

YouTube Premium. $15 a month. No ads ever. Incredible resource of knowledge and entertainment. The Library of Alexandria³.

Exactly. I find most tv/movies mind numbingly boring. I pay for youtube tv ONLY to watch football. After February, I’ll cancel it. I use it for no other reason than that.

Back in the 1950s you used to get 25 minutes of programing with 5 minutes of advertising.
Now it is 20 minutes of programing and 10 minutes of advertising.

On some satellite channels it is almost 1 minute of programing and 1 minute of advertisements.

I recently tried to watch a program that had an old SI-FI movie on it. The program ran two and a half hours. the movie shown was one hour and eleven minutes long.

I have developed a habit of channel surfing. If I hit a commercial I never go back to that channel.

I know exactly how you feel, and it is, for me, dismissive contempt.

I stopped watching television back in the Nineties, and I cannot stomach it at all.

My wife watches television, and every once in a while she calls out that there is a movie on she knows I like, and I will only watch if I can stream or rent the movie with no commercials.

If people want to really zero in on the rot in this country, you can see it in the woke commercials that are completely devoid of value. That and the pharmaceutical commercials, often showing some homosexual couple walking arm in arm.

I don’t watch television, but I do take samples as I walk by, and that is what I see.

And the primate-like screeching of live audiences. I cannot hear it...I have to leave the room or put in earbuds.

I got it the other day. I have Prime, though don’t believe Prime offers any advantage over non-Prime users anymore. I think they ship everything, Prime or not, the same way now.

Tom - Right on! Those dirty dogs are going down the DisneyWorld trail. Also known as “boil-the-frog”.

The first time I saw television in the early 50s there were one minute of ads every 15 minutes. After my military time I noticed that it was one minute every 10 minutes.

Now, it is so ridiculously more ad time than program content that I refuse to watch many of the stations. The remote control is my friend. Ad time is wasted on me anyway. I am not going to buy anything simply because some so-called celebrity says that it is a good deal.

Fifteen?
I have not heard this $15 a month offering of which you speak.
Guess I need to take a look.

I went onto their site…thanks for the “heads up”. I was wondering what their next move was..Prime is a fair deal with free shipping, streaming video, 2 millions songs, good prices, etc but I won’t be paying the extra $2.99 per month. There’s way too many free and other options out there.
Also, Amazon has been a lifesaver when I could not find certain parts in stores that I could only get on Prime.

Other than “Reacher” and “Jack Ryan” their streaming kind of sucks. Anyway, thanks again for the heads up.

Amazon Prime just announced they were “enhancing” their service offerings by putting ads in all the movies.

You can buy classic and even newer DVDs for very little at thrift stores. You just need to learn to examine them for damage, and clean up the viable ones. My husband has a huge collection that mostly cost about $2 each.

Amazon prime no longer gets you commercial free TV, you have to pay a subscription monthly to get it commercial free.

Amazon is sales website is subdized by Amazon Web Services (AWS) giving them an unfair sales advantage where they take the profits from the Government contacts for hosting the NSA, CIA, State, etc., agencies for billions of dollars a year. The FTC has gone no where is spliting up the company so make it a fair playing field for other internet sales comapnies. Pays to be the low cost top solution web services provider to the USG.

LOL-—I had to post this as I was searching more articles on the subject and came across this article headline on the WSJ:

“Americans Are Canceling More of Their Streaming Services
Hulu, Netflix and other streamers are turning to bundles, discounts and ad-supported plans as customer defections rise”

Then as you scroll down to read the article, you get the following message at the paywall:

“Continue reading your article with a WSJ subscription.

Amazon sent it via email during the Christmas email spam overload. You probably thought to yourself, I didn’t order anything from prime?

Jake Ryan was okay to watch, but I hated, absolutely hated, the pinning of liberal terrorism on conservatives. This kind of telling the public it is the conservatives doing something the libartards and marxists are doing is disgusting.
