Leave it to yahoo to suggest another war will be fought. This excerpt was buried in the story.
Trump as POTUS could settle the issue. Respected by both countries. It won't resort to a Milei wagging the dog like the generals did in '82.

The Monroe Doctrine applies here. 2000 Brits living in an isolated enclave are not worth making a big issue over. They can continue to live there in peace as Argentine citizens. Having Milei as their PM just might be better.

Diego Garcia. The British government moved 800 people from the islands and dispersed them to others to build a major base there. Same thing should happen in this case but Falklanders are a different color.

The Falklands never was part of Argentina.
The people who live on the Falklands would like to stay as part of the UK, why not let them be?
Cause Argentina wants more fish and has a broke kleptocracy with hyperinflation
To: DIRTYSECRET
The Argentines have never colonized The Falklands. The Brits have been there since 1833.

I remember reading back during the first Falklands War that there is a good possibility of oil being nearby these islands and that is the reason Argentina wants them................

Going to be interesting to see how Argentina’s dilapidated military fares against the UK’s depleted, woke, and nearly non-existent military.
My money is still with Argentina, unless the UK can get a division (if they even have that many troops) down there first.

UK doesn’t have a Maggie Thatcher at the helm. Argentina could make demands and negotiate for this, have a fair chance of success.

Very, very, very bad idea

A colleague and I were at odds over the last Falklands war.
It was not easy to overlook his “Reconquista” attitude, as he was a Cuban refugee.

I suspect the UK's navy, namely submarines, would be decisive in an actual engagement. But does the UK have the political will to use it decisively?
I'm guessing about 50:50. If it weren't for the Falkland Islanders voting overwhelmingly in referenda to remain British (96% was the lower vote), my money would be on Argentina negotiating the islands away without a shot fired or troop deployed.
One very cynical wild card: Argentine politicians keep using the Falkland Islands as a distraction from domestic political problems- it's practically a tradition at this point. Would any individual leader really want to get them back and lose that nice, shiny distraction forever? Can't fire people up over "Los Malvinas" if they've been taken from the UK...

Paul McCartney wrote a song called "Give Ireland Back To The Irish".
Maybe the same sentiment applies here.

The Monroe doctrine is long time dead. The part of that deal everyone forgets is the other half of it, that we would not screw around in the European sphere.
But in any case, Argentina is far less capable than it was in the 1982 war. And the Brits are pathetically weaker also. The Argies can’t get there, and the Brits could no longer remove them.
So I guess no harm is trying diplomatically and legally.
If the Argies had any sense, they would arrive in refugee boats and land unarmed and un-uniformed like they do in the Uk and EU today. Ask to be fed and paid benefits. Bout 2800 islanders, they could be overwhelmed in a day.

Dear Mr. Milei you have other bigger problems than those islands.

This is all over oil in the surrounding areas, and fishing rights, but probably oil and gas.

Scary, but if they want the islands back, they could fill one of the numerous cruise ships used on Antarctic and Cape Horn. Have about 10-15k Argie migrants embark on it. Pass by innocently 50 or 100 miles away.
Dart right into the port and start disgorging passengers. Claim refugee status. refuse transport elsewhere.
The Brits won’t torpedo a cruise ship.
But sounds like his thoughts are diplomacy. I doubt he can achieve it, but that’s kosher to try in that manner.

I suggest an election instead of a war. Just ask the people who live there who they want to be their parent country.
