Bringing back poor farms would be a great idea along with the insane asylums but considering half the country is insane it would be better to just wall off blue states.

I’ve always thought Ron DeSantis could be a great President and think he may be the best Governor in the history of the US.

He made the major error of listening to his advisors. Advisors are paid to say “Yes, Ron. Run.”

If they say NO, they don’t get paid for the next 18 months.

He’s now got a couple solid years to rebuild his reputation and I hope he does well.

I would ask the question, what reputation does he have to rebuild exactly??

The reputation of him being one of the best Governors in the country, who held to conservative principles and took on the likes of Disney, Covid Mafia, Teacher’s Unions, LGBTQ crowd, etc.

Or the reputation put on him by the supporters of Trump ??

I will say, he’s not a good retail politician, he can’t keep people entertained for long periods of time and running on his results was not close to being enough to slow down Trump, Trump is the choice of Republican voters, which is fine, but some of the things said about DeSantis during the campaign were disgustingly wrong.

IMO, he doesn’t have to do anything to rebuild his reputation, except remaining a strong conservative and great governor, that should be plenty.

That’s what I was getting at. It was poorly put. Image would have been a better descriptive than reputation. He needs to work on his image.

For instance, the white boots photo. They were perfectly acceptable boots worn by many on the waterfront, but they didn’t portray a strong appearance. When you’re in that position, appearance is important.

My employer manufactures building materials, mainly in the chemical realm. I am the product application trainer. My job is relatively public. Jeans, boots and a work shirt are my typical uniform because I believe I should dress like my customers and not “above” them. It goes to credibility.

Trump gets away with a business suit on a jobsite. He’s a rarity. On the same hand, a politician in a flannel shirt and cowboy hat when he’s in Texas and business suits everywhere else is disingenuous.

When style and performance is the defining criteria on electing a POTUS, then we are real trouble, his substance is a good as any politician in the country, his style is below average at best, which in this case getting compared to someone like Trump who is a master showman, it was a total mismatch.

For example, take Obama and Bill Clinton, two politicians who were masters of style but were horrible when it came to substance and character, both were 2-term presidents and both turned out to be incredibly bad for the country.

putting people in camps.

I think this is workable. Many Homeless want their "independence" and don't want to be in structured settings. Camps with medical tents seems like a good way to get them some care and keep them from being a menace.

This sounds like a flip answer. But I have thought the same. Deport from there...

“it’s interesting how a guy can govern the 3rd largest state effectively but he and his campaign are horrible.”

Your candidate on a nationwide level lost. More on a personality level than on his positions which statewide are good (I live in FL). But he prematurely went up against a man who was a great President and already did everything policy-wise that DeSantis ran on, and he was doomed to failure by comparison.

Like Icarus, Ron flew too close to the sun. Hubris sank his campaign as he was seen as disloyal to the man who put him over the top in his first gubernatorial campaign in FL, and then stuck the stiletto in Trump’s back by running against him.

DeSantis’ personality is too brittle and the public didn’t like his way of presenting. Policies (his were virtually the same as Trump’s are) were not the issue. It was DeSantis’ personality and disloyalty to Trump that were at issue. That and his being backed and financed by anti-Trumpers and globalist deep state types. And thus DeSantis failed. You backed a loser this time around. Time to get over it.

Unfortunately, in the age in which we live, style is n=more and more important. The sight and sound generation understands only that.

Lincoln apparently had great stature but from what I understand had a speaking voice like RFK Jr. He’d never be elected today because of that.

FDR was in a wheelchair, but since almost all anyone knew about his was from photo’s and radio, it didn’t matter.

Today, sadly, it has to be the entire picture. Every moment is on video.

DeSantis continues to impress me as governor - it’s a good idea. Keep the homeless from decimating urban areas and driving away businesses and residents, and ensure that these camps cannot provide the high percentage of homeless drug addicts with fentanyl.

It worked during the great depression. Common sense usually works.

Agreed. DeSantis is back to being a governor and trying to do what’s right. Leave him alone.

You’re right. I’m 73 and have seen many examples of CCC over the years. Some fine work was done and they were proud of their accomplishments.

Many went into the US Army Engineers or Seabees and helped win the war.

In the early 20th century, many counties set up work/relief camps where people down on their luck could live. The camps included a place to sleep and farms where the denizens raised livestock and grew gardens to provide food.

Then big government arrived and wrecked it.
