Wow....a conservative longhorn? You must be more rare than chicken's teeth. This frustration with our lib chancellor has so angered me this week; you must stay constantly frustrated with "Berkely on the Colorado".
Thanks for the photos.. they were great. I live in Lubbock so I am aware of the progress being made on the Texas Tech Campus.
However, I did save your photo's to my desk top as my background. Thanks... mucho.
Posted by JPatsPowerHour (what a great name): I just got off the phone with Jay Burns, special assistant and Texas Tech alum, who informed me that a resolution has been drawn up to preserve the current seal, the Double "T" for use across campus, and if need be, to secure the red & black for colors of the HSC will be added. He stated that as soon as word broke on this proposed change, Carl and many other state reps and Sen. Bob Duncan got to work. The administration has been informed of this activity, and Jay stated that they have indicated that no changes will be made to the seal as of yesterday, but he is not sure how dependable that info is. He also told me that Lynn Denton was behind this same effort at UT, and that is why Smith asked her to come aboard. There is more to it than meets the eye. Jay has many friends that work for the UT system, and they outlined what all can go wrong for the university and its students due to this change. Basically, UT can no longer use the Longhorn on any academic materials or websites, only the tower is used. furthermore, if a student service group wants to use the Longhorn or the tower on a T-Shirt, handout, charity event... THEY MUST PAY FOR IT! Even if it happens during a sanctioned event such as a football game or whatever. The administration has alienated thestudent body at UT, and now UT officials are looking at what must happen to reverse what Denton was a part of. A SEPERATE consulting firm was recently used to identify how many people would recognize UT with Longhorn or Tower... Of course longhorn won by a mile. The Tower was only recognized regionally. The consulting group informed UT that using only seals or indistinguishable (sp) landmarks is NOT garnering any attention to the school academic or otherwise. It was stated that it is belived to be far too generic. They actually recommended to UT to build off of the popularity success of the Longhorn to associate that with the academics. INTERESTING, huh? So what is the true motivation here? This is not diatribe of someone on a half-day's work just guessing... THIS IS INFO FROM THE REP's OFFICE. Don't buy it? Call for yourself! Hell, call anyway and tell the offices you love our university and this sepration of the School from the Double T, the original seal, and possible Red & Black of the HSC is unacceptable. I am including all of the contact info for reps taht would be a part of this or have interst in it.State Representative Pete Laney Capitol Office Room CAP 3N.05, P.O. Sorry...in my haste I left off the message's title, which refers to a resolution by State Representative Carl Isett's office.
Please see post #44 above....looks like we're feeling "your" pain.
I too like the "cow skull" look. Maybe it could be added to the Georgia O'Keffe museum...
You won't get much argument from me....
Thanks for the kind words and you are welcome to the photos.
Can you post a link to that post? I want to send it around my email list and need a link!
Danke!
That site requires registration, I think....
I already registered but couldn't find the post. If you could just direct me in the forum where it is, I'd appreciate it.
go to the "football" category.....
Found it! Thanks!
say Hi to Coach Knight for me ...
If I ever run into him, I will. I have had some of his players as students in class. He is strict about grades and has a Zero Tolerance policy regarding his students' academics: if they do not pass, then it is their fault and they bear the consequences.
are you hearing anything new?
