I also thought "Flashback" with Dennis Hopper and Keifer Sutherland was really funny. FBI agent taking an old hippie in on a train and the old hippie talks the agent into believing he took LSD...with Jimi Hendrix playing "Voodoo Child (slight return) in the background. Good stuff!
"Well, it's a British list, American stats would probably pan out differently."
Oh yes. I think the Brit reveal their deep love of dogs by including "Best in Show" in this list. I'm pretty sure an American list would put "A Mighty Wind" in it's place. I think A Mighty Wind is one of the sweetest, funniest, best movies I've ever seen. Of course, I'm partial to musicals, so that counts.
What about the scene in MP at the Castle Anthrax:
ZOOT: I'm afraid our life must seem very dull and quiet compared to yours. We are but eightscore young blondes, all between sixteen and nineteen-and-a-half, cut off in this castle, with no one to protect us. Oooh. It is a lonely life ... bathing ...dressing ... undressing ... making exciting underwear....,ect...
-Continue-
DINGO: Wicked wicked Zoot ... she is a bad person and she must pay the penalty. And here in Castle Anthrax, we have but one punishment ... you must tie her down on a bed ... and spank her. Come!
DINGO: You must spank her well and after you have spanked her you may deal with her as you like and then ... spank me.
AMAZING: And spank me!
STUNNER: And me.
LOVELY: And me.
DINGO: Yes, yes, you must give us all a good spanking!
GIRLS: A spanking. A spanking. There is going to be a spanking tonight.
DINGO: And after the spanking ... the oral sex.
GALAHAD: Oh, dear! Well, I...
GIRLS:The oral sex ... The oral sex.
GALAHAD: Well, I suppose I could stay a BIT longer.
I liked "Best in Show" better than "A Mighty Wind" myself, but then, I'm partial to dogs too. :~D
Those are a great group of actors that should do more work together though. I'd go see it.
"Son, you got a panty on your head."
Ah yes, Raising Arizona is one of the most-quotable movies.
"These balloons blow up into funny shapes?"
"No. Unless round is funny."
"Raising Arizona is one of the most-quotable movies."
Yes! Best line in that is the irate father of the kidnapped baby asking the police "Isn't that your g*d-damned raison d'etre??!!"
I always say that now.
"Those are a great group of actors that should do more work together though. I'd go see it."
Yes, they are, they should, I would too. You might try "waiting for guffman (sp?)" but it didn't do much for me, sometimes I need to see these things twice. I didn't laught once the first time I saw "young frankenstein", it got funnier every time since.
Their talents are amazing. To think it is the same folks (mostly)from Spinal Tap to Best of Show to A Mighty Wind. Just amazing.
A few dirty bits in each I could do without, but all in all good fun.
And speaking of dirty bits, where is "Kentucky Fried Movie" on this list? You know it would be on an American one.
Haven't seen that one.... can't say. :~D
I guess you had to be there
I believe he was speaking figuratively, meaning blessed are all those pruveyors of dairy products....
"Blessed is the Greek?"
"Yes, apparently he's going to inherit the earth."
"Did anyone catch his name?"
I got a real grin from "The Burbs" with Tom Hanks.....
Caddy Shack, Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein and one many may not remember called Texas Across the River.... Evil Roy Slade was a hoot also !
Check out "Fandango"
A really funny movie.
I like Spinal Tap.
Hands down History of the World Part 1 by Mel Brooks followed by Blazing Saddles.
I remembered really liking this movie.
My daughter and I just watched it, as part of my long-range goal of proving to her just how old and un-hip I am.
Anyway, we were both rather dissappointed in the movie. There were a few funny parts, but mostly it was just stupid.
(I might stop watching old movies -- I just re-watched on "Speed" channel the original "Gone in 60 seconds", and whiel I still love the chase scene, it wasn't nearly as good as I remembered it. Same was true for "Bridge over the River Kwai").
While I do like Monty Python stuff, they wouldn't make my top list of funny movies.
In the genre of "a mighty wind", which I liked, is one of my favorite comedies, a movie that I still laugh at every time I see it:
'Noises Off'
Carol Burnett, Christopher Reeves, John Ritter, Michael Caine, etc. in a movie about a comedy play.
"Raising Arizona is one of the most-quotable movies."
Talk about quotable, how about Jackie Gleason in Smokey and the Bandit?
Sheriff Brandford: "The fact that you are a sheriff is not germaine to the subject."
Buford T. Justice: "The g*dd*mn germans aint got nothin to do with it."
Buford T. Justice: "Hey boy, where can I find Sheriff Branford?"
Branford: "I'm Sheriff Branford."
Justice: "For some reason, you sounded a lot taller over the radio." Turns away, "What in the h*ll is this world coming to?"
