Yes. I guess the theater owner was highly embarassed. He must have ducked backstage to ask them, "So when are you guys doing your second set?" and Leon probably said, "WHAT second set?
That's the whole show..." So theater owner had to tell people that Leon was done for the night, and then word got backstage that people were NOT pleased. I sure wasn't! But got a bit more of my money's worth when they did the extra material.

Don't forget such Folk groups as the Limelighters, Lamplighters, New Christy Minstrels, and the Kingston Trio, one of my alltime favorites.

And then there's the Beach Boys fiasco - talk about a dysfunctional family!

A Leon Redbone impersonator.

Sounds interesting...

I still have good memories of John Fogerty's appearance on the 1986 HBO "Welcome Home" Special for Vietnam Veterans. John said: "You got the shaft. You know it and we know it. But at some point you have to say: "Well, that's what happened." He talked about how he brooded about the way he was cheated and robbed, and finally said "Well, that's what happened..."

The article doesn't say (but I presume) that not only were they using the Redbone name, they were also playing their tunes.

Back in the 70's I formed a band and called it "Blue Skye" We were only a cover band playing bars. About a year under our belts we came across a band playing as....."Blue Sky".

They played originals, had a manager, and connections.

We changed our name (although I doubt that neither of two small-time bands could legally enforce the non-trademarked name against the other).
