Actually the way they moderate DU would make people's skin crawl. Many people have attested to the fact that moderators post bogus polls on the site; based on people's responses to these polls, they boot members off the site. This isn't idle chatter- dozens of people have brought this up. People with over 1,000 posts have been booted for giving the "wrong" answers. Polls are used to weed out members who don't have "acceptable" views. Additionally, there are some reports that DU tracks IP addresses and makes them available to other Democratic organizations so that they are aware of "bad apples" in the party. Info sharing has been discussed between DU and Democrats.org for examploe.
Finally, David Allan, the operator of the site runs a web consulting business on the side in which he does work for the DLC (NDOL). Of course he makes no mention of that on DU. People have suspected for years that his selling of data and shilling for the party bosses, is the only reason he really doesn't have to work for a living.
