I don't think the Foley mess can sway peoples' opinion on the WOT and morals as it relates to Dems favorability. But I think, that with the appearance that we are safe, which is due to the excellent efforts of the WOT, and with the sort of same thing happening that happened with Dan Rakowski (was that his name?) in '94, with the checking cashing scandal, you might have a potential situation in which people feel safe enough to throw the bums out, even though they have no real desire to throw the opposing bums in. What's the word I'm looking for, voter ennui?

This sounds about as believable as one of Olberman's rants.

If Republicans stay home to protest about immigration this year to make a point it won't be noticed or acknowledged by anybody. If the Republicans lose this year it will be blamed on Foley... period. They won't get the message that the disgruntled will be trying to send.

Polls are less and less relevant every day with cell phones, caller ID, call blocking, etc., etc.

The Republican party is seen as a nest of homosexuals enabling each other in preying upon young children.

That's the plan, but it won't wash. We'll see how naive voters really are next month.

Utter nonsense. Personally, I'm unconvinced that many Republicans deserve to be re-elected, but they will be. 90%+ of Americans don't even know who Mark Foley is, including probably 65% of his own constituents.

Sounds like someone is setting up to scream about another "stolen election" once this doesn't pan out the way their poll says it should.

And, because Republicans are generally busier (with jobs, family commitments, and such), they are harder to contact.

Its just this poll struck me as strange that people would suddenly trust democrats on 2 of the GOP strentghs. I can understand moral values taking a hit but not switching to the dems. This poll did seem a little fishy to me. Esp when they mentioned WOT

Problem is Newsweek is owned by Don Graham (same guy owns WarshPost), and he hates Republicans and will tell any lie possible ~ it was his paper that said Senator Allen couldn't handle the "Jewish" question asked of him.

It's not a good idea to begin believing anything coming out of the Post pit.

Especially when the early election day polls go their way.

No internals. Based on the data pretty clear they pulled a CBS and polled about 15-20% MORE Democrats. Pure garbage poll. IF there was all this melt down in Republicans at least SOME of the Freepers would be expressing what the poll is showing. None one is.
That NO Freepers are echoing what the public is supposedly telling Newsweak makes it pretty obvious they weighted their poll to generate a result that would validate their editorial line. UNTIL we can see some solid internals on this one, which they are withholding for some odd reason, I say this is pure unadulterated statistical manipulation. The Democrats game plan clearly is to try and depress GOP turn out since they KNOW they cannot win on the issues. It tell we can see the internals on this one it is just another "Flush the Koran" story from Newsweak

Exactly. So what happens? Just like the exit polls in '04, they over sample a particular segment and/or make up the data. Then everybody wonders how they could have been so wrong.

These polls are becoming more and more inaccurate yet people haven't quite realized it yet. Those you do know, don;t care because it suits their political agenda and/or they are being paid to do them regardless of accuracy.

Today, polls are done and broadcasted to FORM public opinion, nor to REFLECT it.

its total BS and we will see on election day, i think what we will be seeing from he on out is poll manipulation like we saw before 2004 and we know who had the last last laugh then.

BS, NO Internals? Sorry the ONLY time they cover up their internals is because they KNOW they will not stand the light of day. Junk Poll. HAS one goal, depress the GOP base. The Dems KNOW they cannot win on the issues. SORRY but this is the SAME organization that published the Flush the Koran at Gitmo lie. People need to learn to be a LOT more cynical about the Junk Media.

HOW many times do you people have to be lied to by these clowns before YOU STOP having all this faith in their mythical "objectivity"?

The headline might as well be:

They change how they weight their sample. In 2004, to change the story line, they oversampled Republicans. Suddenly right after the National Republican Convention they showed Bush up by 12 points. THEN after the 1st debate to sell the Kerry as Come back Kid they went back to oversampling Democrats. Newsweak is pure junk polling designed to PUSH a story line NOT reflect reality.

Until we see the internal data, which Newsweak is NOT publishing with THIS poll like it has every OTHER poll, we should assume pure unadulternated Bull.....

Humans have a herd mentality, they do not necessarily want to be acting contrary to a general "groupthink"; polling is used to give the illusion of a particular sentiment when it is desired to move an outcome towards a desired goal. I suspect that is what is happening here. In the unlikely event these polls are actually accurate, Americans are more stupid than we thought, albeit worked over by various major propaganda outlets, academia, hollywood, et. al.

I've read a poll that says 80% of people distrust Republican or something like that. I don't believe it and neither should the American people. I'll see if i can find the link on Yahoo! and report back.

"Does anybody have any info on the polls at this time in 2002?"

You mean 2006.
