Well, she's half labrador :~)

At that angle, you can see that the head isn't quite Lab and is more Husky -- ditto the chest and front structure.
From the SIDE she looks like a Lab though! (And of course that's the better half.)

I don't think this qualifies as really hero-dog in any way.
I think they know it because hardly any of the article was devoted to the dog. It was largely a story of the rescue, period.
