update:
Men inspect an amphorae, thought to have carried wine, discovered on a 2,350 year old shipwreck off Cyprus in this May 29, 2008 handout photograph released by Cyprus News Agency. Archaeologists have started research into what they believe may be the oldest known ancient shipwreck off Cyprus which sank with hundreds of jars of wine on board 2,350 years ago. I have heard a liquid has been found in amphoras that was wine at one time.

Golly. I wonder what it became after 3000 years? *blech*

Thank Dionysos that our wine cartons won't last long enough to embarrass us in future millenia.

:’) Nah. There’s some kind of gunk, er, residue in amphora from time to time, started out as olive oil, wine, fish sauce, whatever. :’)
