Tombstone was on the History Channel yesterday.

Val Kilmer = Best Doc Holiday ever, imo.

There is so much of the gospel bound up in this movie. Many who profess to believe the good news forget that John, Jesus and their disciples preached repentance for the forgiveness of sin. Modern “Christians” forget this, and enable the falling away of many. Almost all of the quotes favorited here have a specific application from the Scriptures.

I also loved the Audie Murphy westerns.

I guess it is a generational thing. Unforgiven bored me silly and Open range was even worse (that just may have been Kevin Costner). I can watch Shane or The Magnificent Seven over and over.

What about “Roy Rogers and the Runaway Stagecoach”? or “Gene Autry and the Legend of the Buried Treasure”? or “Bonanza - the Movie”? or “Zorro - the Movie”? (not technically a western, but sort of) and the classic “High Noon - the Sequel”?

Your list is so . . . unimaginative. You must broaden your horizons. Now, there’s a good idea for a western . . “Broad Horizons” starring some really fat actors.

Furthermore:

A very good description of the liberal membership of the Democratic Party.

Hedley Lamarr: I want rustlers, cut throats, murderers, bounty hunters, desperados, mugs, pugs, thugs, nitwits, halfwits, dimwits, vipers, snipers, con men, Indian agents, Mexican bandits, muggers, buggerers, bushwhackers, hornswogglers, horse thieves, bull dykes, train robbers, bank robbers, ass-kickers, shit-kickers and Methodists.

Also:

An Obama type description of clinging Western voters.

Jim: You've got to remember that these are just simple farmers. These are people of the land. The common clay of the new West. You know... morons.

Also:

Another Obama like description of himself the messiah orator.

Hedley Lamarr: My mind is a raging torrent, flooded with rivulets of thought cascading into a waterfall of creative alternatives.

Taggart: God darnit, Mr. Lamarr, you use your tongue prettier than a twenty dollar whore.

Sorry to intrude on the Clint movies but these quotes from Blazing Saddles really identify the Democrats and their less than adequate candidate.

Great list, although I saw Butch Cassidy for the first time this weekend and really didn’t like it..

You have these two supposed famous bandits who never manage to hit a big score, get chased all over hell and gone, and solve that problem by going to a country where they don’t speak the language and stand out like sore thumbs.

Will Penny is worth watching just for Donald Pleasance out crazying Bruce Dern (which in the 70’s took some doing!).

I'm not sure how FR is set up for movie reviews, but I think it's an excellent movie and I think the Eastwood is an actor who is easy to mock but who attempts greater things than he is given credit for and often achieves them.

And besides he b*tch-slapped Spike Lee. You GO, CLint!

I’m willing to put up with the spaghetti westerns to see Lee Van Cleef.

One of the best.

The final shootout is thematic around "staying calm" in the face of murderous chaos. I've hear the teme from LEOs in the past...

One of the great stories about the fallen man.

Annette Bening was superb in Open Range, loved her performance.

Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid is based on real people and as much as any historical movie has been adulterated with artistic license, this one is close to being the real deal.

of course if your problem with the movie is the 2 libs who share the title, then I agree with you.

In reference to the Democrats, I’m always reminded of Gov Lapetomane’s admonition: “Gentlemen: we have to protect our phoney-baloney jobs!”

"Open Range," great. Sort of like "Lonesome Dove" with SOME good feelings at the end.

But Plainview NOT a villain? LOL. Hate to end up in a concentration camp under your watch!

I would add “Once Upon a Time in the West” to all time great Westerns. I asked jack Elam once about the fly - it was all ab lib.

I like Lee, Clint, Eli Wallach, Charles Bronson...... and Henry Fonda as the consummate evil in “once upon a time...” is fantastic.

I just don’t like the Spaghetti genre. too Kung Fo movieish.

what is the consensus at FR on this one

We couldn't agree on whether to have a consensus on this movie at our last meeting.
