Suggestions for 32" LCD TV

Thanks very much to all of you for your answers, I really appreciate your taking the time...so, if I understand:

The more HDMI ports, the better.

Get the biggest you can afford.

If I can spend, high cost plasmas are good

Get components with optical hookup (sound)

Also, does anyone know what those ethernet looking ports are for?

Ideally you want HDMI audio hook ups to decode the highest level blu-ray tracks, check out the Onkyo receivers, they’re good and you don’t have to spend a fortune.

For your blu-ray player I would suggest a PS3, even if you’re not a gamer, you can hook it up to the internet (free) and get firmware updates when available for your PS3 and blu-ray player.

Ethernet could:

1: be used for firmware updates, very likely.

2: be used for movie down loads somewhat likely, sony already has models that do this.

3: be use for network video streaming (playing your own video files) could happen, wouldn’t bank on it.

4: service use only, you will never be allowed to use it, probably the most likely.

BTW if you are willing to spend 5k and want a big picture, have you ever considered a front projector? For less that 5k, you could have a 120 inch screen. Just askin.

With the economy the way it is and it’ll get even worse, I would think you could buy a brand new, never opened in the box TV for peanuts after Christmas and early next year.

I was going to get the TV tomorrow but now I'm going to watch for after-Christmas sales. I might be able to score a Samsung 32" 720p HDTV for around US$450!

Good news! I just talked with the repair shop and they can fix the TV for only US$98 (they had to replace a couple of worn out capacitors). I should get it back by tomorrow.

Does it matter for a 32” screen and do screens that size have a 1080? Just askin.

For what it is worth they say 32" and below you cannot tell difference between 720 and 1080
You should confirm this
I got an Envision/AOC 32" it is 720
We are happy with it
Just got an up converting DVD player and will see what that can do with regular DVDs and 720p

My observation is they are giving good discounts on 720p of all type because people want the 1080i or p

You can get a new 26” CRT TV for about 130$ and it will have a new digital tuner built into it

Buy why? I’d rather get a LCD instead, not only because of lower power consumption (my repaired 27” TV uses a frightening 250 watts of power!) but because the LCD panel displays a true HDTV picture.

My 32” LCD is lasted at 200 watts which surprised me. Kind of high

I like lower wattage in CRT TVs. Sharp is very good at that. I’ve seen Sharp@26” and 75 watts

The newer the CRT TY the lower the wattage generally

You must have an old-style LCD. The VIZIO VW32L I once considered uses a much more reasonable 104 watts.

I have the exact same problem. If anyone knows of such a thing, please let me know. I want to replace a 27” SD with a wide screen flat panel. I'm really not to fond of putting in a 26” wide screen, but I refuse to throw out a $2,000 piece of hardwood furniture.

There might be little fans in there for cooling. You would be surprised. This adds to wattage. A cruder hotter board and LCD lamps but maybe more reliable

I’d suggest that you try the TV with your existing DVD player before investing in a player that upconverts. Since the TV’s native resolution is 720p, it will upconvert a 480i or 480p signal to 720p.
