The way things are going I reccomend “Mattress Savings and Loan”. They pay almost as much intrest and you can easily do your own statement every month. Oh yes, and there are no fees surcharges or bank errors and the IRS can not garnish your account.
You should check out this bank:

I’m ready to dump Wells Fargo. The only reason I am still a customer there is because of the convenience of their branches. I hate the way they handle their savings accounts, every now and then, the savings you had with the best rate becomes the savings with the lousiest rate. It means having to stay on top of what they’re offering, and having to move your money over to the ‘new’ best savings plan which requires new paperwork.
Does Bank of America operate that way, anyone knows? Do their savings plan stay the same or do they change their savings plans so that you have to move your money over to get the rate you were once getting?
I agree!!!!
USAA if you qualify. I can’t begin to tell you how great their service and terms are.
I’m considering adding an account or two at ING. They have good rates. I don’t know enough about them yet, though.
Citibank, NationalCity, Indymac
Under your mattress along with the 357 magnum

Citibank? are you serious?!
Thanks everyone, for your suggestions.
Yes, I qualify for USAA. I’ll look into that.
(I’m in California, but I guess I can access USAA from here somehow.)
It’s as good as the other two I mentioned.
>”Im ready to dump Wells Fargo.”
Let me tell you why we did.
Sent a check to a company in Florida. For whatever reason, they ended up cashing the SAME check about 4 times (About every 3 to 4 days). Wells Fargo WOULD NOT HELP!!!!! Wanted to put a CANX CHECK on it, WF said they couldnt! Tried to put a STOP PAYMENT ON IT, WF said they COULDNT(check had already cleared once, twice, three times, didnt matter, it cleared each time) WTF!!! At that, I went to the bank in CARLTON MINNESOTA and CLOSED THE ACCOUNT, the ONLY way to keep this from happening. Yes, they forgave the overdraft charges (about $3000 worth), but no matter how many letters you send out, no matter how many apolgies you extend, no matter how many times you BEG, you still end up being the looser.
After 14 years with Wells Fargo, I will N E V E R use them again, in ANY WAY, SHAPE, OR FORM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Even a safe deposit box is better ... that said, where would YOU hide something in your home? ( Or the second or third place...)
Here’s another site you can use for evaluating the banks in your area. It yields a number called “Troubled Asset Ratio”. This number indicates how many bad loans a bank has compared to their good assets. A low number is good. A high troubled asset number is bad.

Funny story about Wells Fargo. I have a mortgage with em. They are always after me to pay by computer instead of the mail.So I lookinto it...and they want to CHARGE me to pay by computer!!!
dumb bunnies.
“Do not pick Ally. That one is operated by the finance arm of GE and went to bat for Van Jones.”
I don’t give a damn, they pay the highest interest.
“and they want to CHARGE me to pay by computer!!!”
I would be interested to hear under what circumstances you would be charged to pay this way? I do this for a living, and set this up for most of my mortgage customers and have never seen a charge.
You should not be charged to do this.
I actually just logged into my personal WF online banking account and saw no circumstances I would be charged to make an online payment.
The only time I have seen a fee charged; is if someone needs to pay by phone.
Another bump for USAA.com
When my house was robbed, the thieves pretty much overturned everything -- mattress, items in the freezer and pantry, drawers, closets. They did, however, overlook my stash of cash and good pearls, hidden in plain sight in a Tampax box. Guess the ewwwww factor was a little too great for them.
