Did you mean to say “very few people go outside withOUT some kind of firearm this time of year” instead of with some kind of firearm?
Ya, too early this morn.
Like was pointed out in the article, seems these attacks are more common when wolves become accustomed to man.
Hopefully the enviros in the lower 48 won’t be winning any more lawsuits preventing the management of wolves thus allowing the populations to increase to even higher levels.
Excellent post, Eska, thanks.
Her jogging down the road triggering the wolves instinct to attack was my thought when reading the article, plus she was a small woman. It sounds like the officials may have been pretty certain that it was wolves that were responsible but were reluctant to commit themselves before an autopsy and getting proof of it.
This is the Law of the Yukon, that only the Strong shall thrive;
That surely the Weak shall perish, and only the Fit survive.
Dissolute, damned and despairful, crippled and palsied and slain,
This is the Will of the Yukon, — Lo, how she makes it plain!
(Robert Service — The Law of the Yukon)
She was probably weak and carrying disease. We all know that the sweet, cuddly, gentle wolves only kill the old, sick and weak, to improve the health of the herd. /sarc
Thanks, George. Between that and the wording in your thread article I’d say it’s a very sure thing the wolves killed her.
Very sad! I hope they do some serious wolf thinning beginning now.
The pc media are trying very hard not to say that wolves can / do kill people.
I replied: “Well, that sure is a scary dog.”
(Although I would have preferred to have a dog with me as well as a gun!”
Someone shot a griz in late Jan on Hot Springs Rd a couple years ago. Figured it was overflow.
Hope all is going well. Been -5 to -15 mostly here, not too bad and the days are longer. Before I got up I guess it was at -50 and blowing like hell.
Heard my place is covered in snow. I’m ready for spring, after my shop is up I’m getting a snow machine for next winter!
I think I had a few articles that listed lots of the documented humans killed by wolves. Its not terribly common, but more than people think.
The ‘wolves only kill the sick and lame animals’ is just nonsense.
I don’t think something should be killed to extinction, but do think predators should be managed.
LOL!
