I agree, Aspertame in Diet Mountain Dew is a pretty damned good idea. Regular Mtn Dew had never been a favorite of mine, in fact, I did and still do think it sucks sucks sucks. But the diet version was one of the many diet sodas I tried when going off sugared ones, and was very pleasantly surprised.

Aspertame leaves a really bad aftertaste IMHO, which is pretty much negated by the presence of citrus (as in Diet Squirt, which is another excellent non-cola) or the various cherry pops with Aspertame, also Diet Vernors, and the only diet Root Beer which wasn’t like lizard spit, A&W (I didn’t try all Aspertame RBs, but did try most of them; Diet Barqs is probably the worst tasting carbonated product since Tab).

But I primarily drink Diet Coke with Splenda — hard to find, but worth looking for. :’)

Atkins advised against aspartame, particularly if you are prone to migraine head aches and I can vouch for the fact that aspartame can trigger a migraine. My husband’s migraines decreased dramatically when I made him stop using it, and especially took away diet sodas containing it.

One time, he went back to visit his mother and I told her in no uncertain terms not to give him aspartame. His last day there, she ignored my advice (orders) and fixed him strawberries sweetened with aspartame and then bragged about it to me. Of course he had a miserable flight home because of terrible migraine head ache. I made sure to tell her.

Careful you’ll pop a vein.

And, just maybe, you'll grab a brain.

Drink diet rite, no calories, no caffeine, no sodium, sweetened with Splenda.

Methanol isn’t toxic at first - the formaldehyde it forms down the pathway of your metabolism is. It gives you a headache, blindness, death - depending on e.g. the dose.

Antidot is ethanol - keeps the enzymes busy lowering the amount of Seawater (CH2O - formaldehyde) your liver is producing from the methanol. So if you want to get pissed on healthcare cost - claim you accidentally got some methanol in your guts.
