You nervous Nellies are really something on FR. Whenever there's a question of anything having to do with food or drink, you can set your watch by the "It's just the worst, most poisonous thing ever. And my cousin's brother-in-law's uncle's dentist's gynecologist says we're all going to die..." post around number 4. There's always the assumption that whatever is in question is consumed by the trough full and is therefore represents a grave threat to be somberly enunciated in the most serious and hysterical tones. "It's poison, I tell you, poison!!!" Silly .

If Aspartame is such an awful thing, then how do you account for the fact that Diet Mountain Dew is the most delicious, awesome drink imaginable?

"There is a strong case against any and all Soda pop. Sugar-bad for you High fructose corn syrup-bad for you Sodium Benzoate-poison Aspartame-poison Acid-bad for your teeth Saccharine-poison Sucralose-poison" ========================================== Yes you are Correcto Mundo Big time IMHO
I should have mentioned that I very, very rarely drink Soda pop of any kind. Water or lemonade is about it, except I do drink beer.

It causes you to gain weight...causes you to crave carbs...passes through the brain barrier...causes brain tumors when surgeons have opened up tumors it is full of aspartame. A very dangerous chemical...FDA banned it for years...Japan will not let it in their country....Stevia is the only sweetener that is truly safe!!

The same way I account for most Americans being fat and out of shape and having elected Barrack Obama.

Stupid people live unhealthily and vote for liberals to live their lives for them.

On top of the horrid aftertaste, the stuff makes me hungry...which sort of negates the purpose of using it. If I drink a diet coke, or anything with artificial sweeteners, I then have to get a snack.

So, I never use the stuff.

Funny you post this, my DR. friend just told me this story 4 days ago. His Dorm mate back in school who was an engineering major broke down the chemical components of Nutra Sweet, it's FORMALDIHYDE!

and this from http://www.naturodoc.com/library/nutrition/aspartame.htm

Aspartate, the principal chemical component of aspartame, is a neurotransmitter and a type of excitatory amino acid. It is a natural and necessary body chemical. Neurotransmitters cross the blood-brain barrier.

The blood-brain barrier is designed to protect the brain from the invasion of harmful chemicals. When normal neurotransmitters such as aspartate and glutamate cross this barrier in excess, they will cause poisoning and lead to the death of the nerve cells within the brain and spinal cord. The blood-brain barrier cannot discern the amount that is needed from too much. So these neurotransmitters can build up undetected until a toxic level is reached.

I can’t drink much of it — it causes me dizziness in large enough quantities...

I heard that also from my martial arts trainer.

I also heard that Aspartame can turn into formaldehyde at high temps such as 85-120 F. So, leaving a diet soda in the sun, then re-cooling it could mean you’re drinking formaldehyde.

I’m no expert; I’m just repeating what I’ve heard.

Yep. A soft drink is just one more sign of the Nation's decline that culminated in our idiot president. Uh huh. Thanks for illustrating my my point so clearly.

I got bouts of severe insomnia when I drank it. Refuse to touch it anymore.

Check out Rumsfeld’s connection to it sometime on the internet.

Avoid it. It is poison. If you have to use a sweetener other than sugar, use stevia. Stevia is natural and it is safe.

I don’t use any artificial sweeteners. I use organic unbleached sugar. Good enough for me.
