“Whether you’re anti or pro (there are a few people who make their living from it) whale hunting, what these people do amounts to international civil disobedience through acts of piracy on the high seas.”

I’ve already said that hunting whales is no different than
hunting rabbits, deer, elk or doves, or fishing for bass, trout or swordfish.

If it were up to me, I’d allow the hunting of any kind of
whale that has populations that could withstand sustainable
harvest.

As to the slimy Paul Watson groupies...

They are pirates, as you noted. Hang them at sea. Film it
for the whaling show.

Bob Barker is one of their donors. They named their ice breaking ship after him.

I find it amusing that Watson’s organization has now kicked out the jailed skipper of the sunk bat-boat who they were so proud of before. Since they are still apparently paying his legal bills, no doubt this is to protect their assets from seizure by the Japanese following his inevitable conviction next week.

I view this much the same way. The Japanese are making a mockery of the international moratorium. You can not call what the Sea Shepard's do piracy. It is more like harassment with the occasional incident. If the were sinking the Japanese ship it would be much different. I find it pretty fun to watch the tactics (or lack there of) of each side.

About frickin’ time. These guys are nothing but pirates and should be treated as such.

You can not call what the Sea Shepard's do piracy.

I thought pirates boarded ships at sea to take control using deadly weapons. Compare to Mr. Bethune, who allegedly boarded a ship at sea to take control using deadly weapons:

On April 2, 2010, Bethune was indicted in Japan on five charges; trespassing, assault, illegal possession of a knife, destruction of property and obstruction of business.[29] The assault charge is based on the allegation that he threw a bottle of butyric acid onto the Shonan Maru 2 days before the boarding, causing chemical burns to a whaler's face. (link.)

I generally agree that Japan's whale hunt is pushing the letter of the international law. They have their reasons. And by all indications they are hunting only species of whales that are plentiful.

If anyone has problems with Japanese whaling they must resolve it peacefully, using reason, not force. Japanese are proud people, with a mile-wide nationalist streak, and they are a rich, powerful (and well armed) state. A vigilante can't just attack Japanese ship and get away with it.

So those dim bulbs finally irritated Japan enough, and Japan just ordered SSCS's boss arrested, wherever on the planet he may be found. That's what states can do. I hope Mr. Watson likes his new job of a fugitive from the law. Perhaps, though, only places like Somalia are safe enough for him, and at his age (59) lack of 1st world medical services will kill him faster than a Japanese prison. But at least he has a choice.

This news kinda bums me out, man. :)

I was hoping to hear more news this winter about a ship full of hippies having to be rescued by Japanese whalers just before their ship takes the plunge to Davey Jones' locker, and seeing it happen on next summer's series of Whale Wars.

Not that I'd want to see anybody get hurt or anything...

Now, if the Japs have finally had enough of this guy it ain't gonna happen.

Oh well. I hope they find him and throw him in one of their famous prisons and feed him whale meat and rice.

It is the theft of time, resources and income from Japanese whaling captains and crew.

Theft at sea is piracy.

From what I understand out of the article the Japanese have put out a warrant on him, but no other countries are obligated to arrest him. It is more of a request for information on his location, etc. I expect the Sea Shepherds to be at sea this winter despite their recent setbacks. They don't learn easy and there's too much money involved. I wonder more about how this affects the liability of Discovery Channel. Curiously, the Sea Shepherd web site has a big piece on how to support their crew mate Pete Bethune, the same guy they distanced themselves from when he got arrested.

This is a travesty of justice! WTF am I going to watch if he gets arrested? Heroes cancelled, Simon off of American Idol, and general lack of programming!!!

If they arrest him I hope there is a "Free Mumia" like campaign just so I can be entertained.

Whale Wars is by far the best cure for depression / anxiety disorder. Watching libs get hosed makes this FReeper smile. I am still dying to see the batman boat get crushed.

I still want to know why the "Bob Barker" is a million dollar vessel. It looks like a gigantic piece of shit. I wouldn't go to sea in a boat like that, looks like WW2 era, you'd think with all the money Bob Barker made over 50 years they could have got a better boat, like the batman boat.

Also I apologize to the Whale War ping list, I was suppose to make the thread Friday but I got insanely drunk after the Sox beat the Cubs and I ended up passing out at like 6:30 PM, so I ended up watching the show Saturday.

Can you say hypocrite???

Paul Watson complains all the time about being kicked out of Greenpeace for being too extreme, yet he does the exact same thing to Pete Bethune.

After I watched that Pete Bethune I think he can claim an insanity defense because there certainly isn't something working up there.

But as Michael Savage says, "Liberalism is a mental disorder"

Only someone mentally ill would park their boat in front of a Jap ship.

I'm watching Season 1 and I'm getting more mad by the second at how stupid these hippies are.

These bums blindly follow Watson like lemmings even though he's putting their lives at risk. And the retard second in command is worse.

I'm shocked none of these hippies have died on their "campaigns".

Watson sends 2 people on a Jap boat purposely so they can get "held hostage" and cry to the media, even though he put those two in that position. Media Matters must love these punks.

I can't imagine most Australians approve of this crap.
