I'd like to see you assume the task.
Go for it.
Yeah, but at least the Golden will bring your arm back!
kanawa ~ I'd like to see you assume the task.
High praise from a man who killed a frigging BEAR with a knife...
...to protect his pit bull.
Do you think Billy Joe Mullet and Ghetto Bob are taking their backyard bred pit bulls to “The Golden Triangle Irish Setter Club” to have them temperament tested? I doubt it. If they did, the results would be skewed a bit. I’m betting the test candidates are brought in by people who are proud of them and work with them.
I once was a volunteer dog-walker for the Arlington VA shelter. It was the policy of the shelter to never adopt out pitbulls. After waiting a time for the owner to claim them, they were killed.
LOL!
Well-played, sir.
That's exactly my point.
There's nothing wrong with the breed. All the problems are caused by Billy Bob Badass and ghetto posers. If every pit bulll vanished off the Earth tomorrow the same idiots would wait until a rap video or an action movie (or the local newspaper) told them what the new badass killer dog was, and then they'd buy it and screw it up, too.
In fact, this breed is so calm and loving in capable hands that almost all of the dogs from Michael Vick's kennel were able to be placed for adoption with familes.
So, do we make decisions on this breed according to hysteria and the Alar-on-the-apples media, or do we use real, verifiable data?
Dead on.
Hmmm...does a wolf have a better temperament rating than a Golden or a Beagle? See post 30.
See the links in post 30. There’s no problem with this breed, only with the media and some of the owners.
It’s a public service to be an accessory to media hysteria that has nothing to do with reality?
See the links in post 30 if you’re not impervious to evidence.
“All the problems are caused by Billy Bob Badass and ghetto posers. “
True, and there are many of them, everywhere. Which means, they are a problem. In this story, they removed the woman’s calf, cheek, and chin, and left her arm looking like an eaten chicken wing. That’s a problem.
A wolf is a first class predator, about as tame as a tiger.
I beg to differ, This is precisely the fact I discerned. People buy these dogs are not ready for the commitment and more important the realization that these animals do have aggressive tendencies. Please spare me the anecdotes. I wish I had a dollar for every Pit bull owner who bragged about how powerful the jaw muscles are in this breed. Owning a Pit Bull is a power trip. I for one have more respect for People who play Russian Roulette with a gun instead of Russian Roulette with a Pit bull. When A gun goes off it's only the person hold the gun who dies. When a Pit bull goes off it's usually some poor kid who gets mauled. I don't like or trust them and I certainly don't like it when I find one roaming my neighborhood.
Good point. Let's ban large SUVs like the Escalade and Hummer because when a drunk driver has an accident with them they cause a lot of damage.
Seriously, what's your solution?
In this story, they removed the womans calf, cheek, and chin, and left her arm looking like an eaten chicken wing. Thats a problem.
Source for that, other than DCBryan posting info he claims is from an EMT that violated medical privacy.
And again, are we going to base our decisions on real, verifiable data? Or will we trust the media that brought us Alar, road rage, the summer of the shark, rocket engines on gas tanks and the "fact" that MMR shots cause autism, just to name a few?
Dead on.
< I>and more important the realization that these animals do have aggressive tendencies.
Ah, now you're off course. See the links in post 30. If we go by the Alar and MMR media and urban legend, these dogs are aggressive and on a hair trigger. If we go by verifiable facts, they're just like any other breed.
Please spare me the anecdotes.
What do you have, other than anecdotes, to show these dogs are more aggressive than other breeds or that there is any problem with them not traceable to poor owners?
I wish I had a dollar for every Pit bull owner who bragged about how powerful the jaw muscles are in this breed.
So what? If they told you that their dog pooped rolled joints, would that be data useful for policy judgments? Can you point to verifiable data that shows a pit's jaws are anatomically different from a Great Dane's jaws, or do you get all your science news from redneck posers walking their dogs?
Owning a Pit Bull is a power trip.
Helen Keller was on a power trip?
Also, referring back to the links in 30 (specifically the "Pit Bull Placebo" link) are German Shepherd, Bloodhound and Doberman owners on a power trip?
I for one have more respect for People who play Russian Roulette with a gun instead of Russian Roulette with a Pit bull. When A gun goes off it's only the person hold the gun who dies. When a Pit bull goes off it's usually some poor kid who gets mauled.
Seeing that every time a trigger is pulled in Russian Roulette there is a minimum 1 in 6 chance that the player will die, you must have some very good verifiable data to back up that comparison. Do you have that, or do you just have anecdotes?
And I know we have a ban on anecdotes in our little conversation, but can you explain to me why anecdotes about pit bulls that are properly trained and are loving family members someone would get in a knife fight with a bear over are inconsequential, but when a media anecdote about a mauling says that the dogs were used for fighting, or animal control had been called multiple times and done nothing or (I'm not making this up) the dog bit a family member after acting erractically for a week ("Gee, I meant to take him to the vet, but I have so much going on"), it is taken as proof there's something wrong with the breed, not the owner?
I don't like or trust them and I certainly don't like it when I find one roaming my neighborhood.
If you really mean all the stuff you've posted here you'll kill the next one you find roaming loose, without hesitation, and accept the consequences.
I’m not a pit bill owner, likely never be (as I said, I’m a retriever guy), and certainly not an apologist for pit bulls.
But I don’t really buy into the “bad breed” thing, as I’m old enough to remember the same things being said about rottweilers, german shepherds, and dobermans.
And a pit bull is not. See the link to ATTS stats in post 30. Pits are slightly more mellow than Goldens and beat Beagles by 6 points.
Any fool who owns a large dog to look like a badass and does not do the work that such a large animal requires will cause problems, but the swine flu media won't report them, or will report them but call the dog a "pit bull mix."
