He used to watch the film Quest For Fire when he was very young which was about early man struggling to control fire. He watched it spellbound over and over hundreds of times. When I was very young, I too was struck spellbound by Daryl Hannah.

The actress in Quest for Fire was Rae Dawn Chong, Tommy's daughter. Petite brunette, and as far as I recall never overtly political. Daryl, on the other hand, is long and blonde with politics one could associate with countless blonde jokes. Given the choice I'd take the cute little Cro-Magnon girl every time.

You’re right. I was thinking of Clan of the Cave Bear.

Not gonna go there; like shooting fish in a barrel (another smoker wearing a straw hat).
...admit it, *you* thought about it too!
Cheers!

Neither film was especially good, although Ron Perlman's Neanderthal grunts and the confronting the cave bear scene in Clan of the Cave Bear were worth watching. Based on your Freeper name I'd bet you liked it too. Nothing like hot bear breath in your face to leave a stain in one's furry pants.

Thanks decimon. He used to watch the film Quest For Fire when he was very young which was about early man struggling to control fire. He watched it spellbound over and over hundreds of times. Good thing it wasn't "Last Tango in Paris", eh? Not pingin', I want to get to bed at a decent hour. ;')
To all -- please ping me to other topics which are appropriate for the GGG list. |

Apes or whatever: they can barbeque?, but more important, can they tailgate properly at your average bowl-eligible football team event? Are they potentially major donors? Would they be interested in marrying a celebrity for a few weeks? Can they join class-action lawsuits. Are they “outside kin” of humans who prefer not to acknowlege their no-account relatives. Can a good sitcom or reality tv show be made about a sizzler simian? Through DNA testing, can we figure out which VIP’s they are related to, not that anyone should give a shi’ite (unless the critter proves to be one), or is running for major political office where age is the only remaining initial qualification

Rest assured, if apes ever do learn to BBQ, and they make their own homemade BBQ sauce, I bet I know what the “secret ingredient” in it will be.(*)
(*) Beer. It is always beer. Though those who love to BBQ get unhappy when you tell them that you know what their “secret ingredient” is.

You have a point but since the first human figured out how to make fire how many other humans figured it out on their own and how many just learned it from someone who learned it?

I was mostly trying to point out mans ingenuity. Even today, if there is a problem humans (some humans) need to solve it. That’s one of our best qualities. Even though only one came up with harassing fire, another came up with pottery, yet another came up with better shetlers and so on.
