In the winter olympics, just the opposite is true in the figure skating competition. The women look beautiful and feminine, and so do the men.

Our great grandparents sent their daughters to finishing schools, where they would learn the finer points of hospitality and motherhood....and we send ours to soccer camps, where they can learn how to compete, curse, run, sweat, spit and scratch.

You can't be serious...soccer in not womanly??

gestures, walk, grunts and shouts during competition, spitting, etc, etc. Lady-like female Olympians appear few and far between

In terms of gestures and gait, we associate the notion of "ladylike" with elaborate and inefficient movements. In sports, quick, clipped gestures and efficient movements help you win - sashaying makes you lose.

Also, grunts are a normal accompaniment to intense physical effort for everyone (very few women, no matter how ladylike in their deportment, endure childbirth silently) and shouting is necessary in team sports - a lavender-scented note passed from woman to woman saying "I'm open" doesn't help in the middle of a soccer game.

When you're leaving it all on the field, you have to spit quite frequently depending on your sport - especially if you have allergies or a cold.

Bullcrap back at ya.. There’s no other way to explain U.S. female Olympians winning twice as many medals as the males. Without Michael Phelps we shouldn’t even bother sending any men to the Olympics. We’ve become too wussified to compete.

Glad for my semi-anonymity here...the Turk is absolutely right.

I was watching some clips of the Olympics on the news this morning, I thought to myself; have the women always looked this manly, or is it just me?

I was watching beach volleyball the other day, and just thought the same thing as well. Expecting something nice to watch, but half the time I was just thinking, "Those are some tiny boobies. Sad day."

My main point in posting this is NOT to say athletic women are less attractive than non-athletic women, rather that our culture is pushing unfeminine traits in women...along with effeminate traits in men.

“Our great grandparents sent their daughters to finishing schools.... we send ours to soccer camps”

So, what you are saying is that females that are athletic and competitive aren’t “real” women? FYI: girls that get involved in a sport usually do better in school. Uh... real school not learning to serve tea or arrange flowers correctly in a vase. “... they can learn how to compete, run, sweat, spit and scratch”. Gosh, women actually exercising and SWEATING! Imagine how stupid these girls are to want to keep their bodies healthy by competing in a sport. How in the world will they ever arrange the perfect flower arrangement when they are tired from a sport?!!

Today, it's all about girls, girls, girls. I would HATE to be a boy today. Even the Disney movies are obsessed with 'girl power'; Tangled, Brave, etc.. It's pretty obvious that on a national level females are being 'put in charge' of everything because it's easier for the government to manipulate them.

The formula is simple. You EMPOWER THEM THEN TELL THEM HOW TO VOTE:

The female shot putters should wear Beach Volleyball style uniforms.

You realize, don’t you, that there is no medical evidence for what you’re saying? There’s no biochemical pathway by which muscles turn into fat deposits.

I was an athlete when I was a young woman, and I looked like the girls in these pictures. When I stopped training the curves came back, but my muscles did not “turn to flab.” I got married. I had babies. I nursed them. Got back in shape afterward, though not like my youthful competitive tone. Like my fellow female athletes, I’m straight, feminine, and I love pretty clothes.

I don’t understand what motivates comments like this. Do you want American women to be soft, pudgy, and weak? Are we supposed to just do needlepoint and run the vacuum all day? Maybe later. But when one is young, strong, and talented, why not compete with the rest of the world?

You are right. No need to apologize. Also, women don’t pick up weapons to fight for their country, so.. Putting them in charge of everything is preferable over men, from the government’s perspective. It’s all part of the big picture. 0bammy preys on women.

The reason why the US women have more medals than the US men is because the US women for the most part are 3-5 years ahead in training than their forgein counterparts. Beach volleyball for instance..those two women, May-Treanor and Walsh have been doing it for 15 years each. While the sport is fairly new in other countries. Those other countries are catching up.

As for the US males it's not that we are becoming woosified, it's just that the other countries are catching up athletically to us...just as countries like China and Brazil are becoming more competitive in the world market.

Also other countries are funding their male Olympic sports stars more than what we do.

You can't be serious...soccer in not womanly??

World Cup competitors are surely not womanly.

Are a LOT of girls & women involved in soccer still very feminine? Yes, of course...it's their nature. However--the fact that in previous generations young girls were encouraged to learn to be feminine, and today--the overall emphasis seems to be for women to learn to compete in the world like a man (and femininity be d*mned), is just sad.

Title nine is just not all good. And yes this is related to the Chick-Fil-A protests...

Again, my main point is, our culture, the water we're swimming in....more and more despises femininity in women, and masculinity in men.

“... Do you want American women to be soft, pudgy, and weak?”

We didn’t go to a finishing school, ottbmare... so we are less than perfectly female. “Are we suppose to just do needlepoint and run the vacuum all day?”
Why yes... in pearls. We need to do all that in pearls. LOL!
