Well, if you’re not in a big hurry to watch non-live (sports, etc.) programs - most of which can still be seen free on local tv, subscribe to Netflix and watch them as they come out.
Not only do they stream (about $8 a month) they have a large library of episodic shows. You just might have to wait 6-12 months after the season is over. Depends on the show.
If you really want to watch a sporting event on say, NFL network, then go to a sports bar or friends house.
I don’t know if you’re still looking, but I followed davandbar’s advice and went to playon.tv. The lifetime channel purchase is on sale @ $45. I am trying to figure all this out, to avoid cable expense but to have some decent selection.
