I always laugh at those fools who think Preppers are “crazy conspiracy kooks”.
And I ask them: “If things get hairy, don’t you want to be hunkered down with your family, secure, well-fed, and heavily armed against looters and marauders? Or would you rather be in the middle of a desperate urban mob, trampling each other to get to a FEMA truck that’s tossing out 8-ounce bottles of water?”

Mexico is still a Third World country because a small handful of oligarcs there have looted the nation’s wealth for their own personal fortunes. Meanwhile the “little cockroaches”, as the elites call them, die in the streets or risk their lives to come here.

“Meanwhile the ‘’little cockroaches’’ as the elites call them, die in the streets or risk their lives to come here.’’<< Yup, that’s about the size of it. From what I understand there’s about five prominent families in Mexico who are the power elites and run the show. There is almost no budget for things like education, health care, decent mass transportation, etc. The United States is seen by Mexicans as their safety net, their provider of health care and education and one of the things about Mexicans is this galling assumption that somehow through convoluted and revisionist history because of some imagined insult or act of imperialism we the people of The United States are supposed to provide for Mexico’s deficiencies. This infuriates the hell out of me, Mexicans are nothing but arrogant beggars.
Bribery, ‘’la mordita ( the little death bite’’) and corruption are systemic in Mexico and deeply ingrained into the culture, as well as heaping does of violence. I’m sorry but I’m one American who is way past feeling anything but contempt for Mexico and it’s people. Nothing but a slovenly , pugnacious, criminally prone bunch of thieves and hypocrites.

Good for you, but you can do without food longer than you can do without water. Maybe you should stock up a little more on the water.

I posted this on their comment thread. The key point is that FEMA and all of the govt’s resources can only “rescue” one or two Katrinas at a given time. If an entire region loses power even for one week, store looting will evolve into truck hijacking and then to blood in the streets as gangs fight for control of the remaining resources. At that point it won’t be a matter of flipping the power back on, society will be gravely and perhaps fatally wounded once every fuel and food truck runs out of diesel, comes to a stop, and is looted. Once the trucks stop moving, society goes immediately into starvation mode, then panic and anarchy. Read my new short story floating around the internet called “Alas, Brave New Babylon” for one take on this type of collapse scenario.

I used to live in Ft. Lauderdale for a while in the 80s. I agree, S. Florida would be hell on earth. From Tampa to the Keys, up to Miami and the Palm Beaches, South Florida is like an enormous atoll. All those millions of people are crammed into a narrow dry land edge a few miles wide, with nothing inland but swamps. 90% of their food comes from outside of South Florida, and their water system is a joke, that barely functions even with the grid humming along. Kill the grid in South Florida and it would look like the Apocalypse in two weeks. And pray that Turkey Point never melts down. The other power plants run mostly on oil or gas, which would also run out without regular deliveries by ship. If they run out of fuel and go dark, Turkey Point will be the only source of power. Better pray those engineers are mighty dedicated folks with lots of contingency plans.

Though I’m not hyper-privileged, my town is, and if they are without water we’re doomed.

In south Florida, I think there would be a mass exodus of whites (at least they will try to squeeze up I95) but I think the Hispanics will hunker down and make the place into a little Cuba with occasional hunting trips across alligator alley to Naples. I see similar scenarios in Tampa and Orlando. Most of the whites will leave their properties to be pillaged.

My prepper news is I just got the new model Foodsaver, have thought about getting one for years. Could just not get excited about another electrical appliance. But this is great, already bought bulk almonds and small packet sealed them, I have the canning jar attachment too just love it. Sealed up brown rice yesterday in half gallon canning jars.

***I haven’t heard anything regarding what the State Dept is doing to get U.S. citizens home.****

“WHERE IS OUR MILITARY!”-statement by a trapped US tourist after the hurricane in Cancun Mexico, about 10 years ago.

Imagine the gridlock on 95 once cars and trucks start running out of fuel. By about day two or three, I-95, the Turnpike, US 1, Dixie Highway, A1A etc will all be parking lots, adding only more hungry mouths to the local problems.

They went on their own accord, they can get home on their own accord. If you leave this country in any capacity outside military service you are on your own.

You may think that, or feel that way, but the facts, according to the State Dept website:

Each evacuation depends on the nature of the crisis. In extreme situations, where local infrastructure is damaged or severely compromised, we work with the host government, other countries, and other U.S. government agencies to arrange chartered or non-commercial transportation for U.S. citizens seeking to depart. This could include transportation by air, land, or sea.

Ive stocked up here a bit but probably not enough..home protection is well taken care of tho.

We arent planning on going back till after Jan...but I may send my wife back earlier.
