Simple fix...download start8 from stardock. It’s just like windows 7 but better.

This.

I’ve been very happy with ClassicShell. Anything better with Start8?

I haven't used ClassicShell so can't compare. I read great reviews of Start8 and it was only $5, so I went right to it.

That’s the presenters fault for not disabling the live tile. Your comment is dumb. Like saying someone used a inappropriate photo in a PowerPoint slideshow then it’s PowerPoints fault?

A lot has changed in three decades. Accept the changes or get left behind.

Yep. People complain and bitch because it’s easier than actually putting in the effort to learn something new. I’m a big W8 fan. System is much faster and great for multitasking with realizable screens side by side.

GUI.

It a tablet and phone UI shoved on to PCs and lappers. Major, major, major screw-up.

I know that there are utilities that can be used to make Windows 8 look like Windows 7- Start-8 and Classic Shell - are two that spring to mind, but using them feels like a dodge to me, and adds a layer between me and the operating system, something which makes troubleshooting tricky.

Why mess around installing Windows 8 and then making it look like Windows 7, when I can just install Windows 7? Riddle me that, MS.

Has anyone been paying attention to the progress (if any) that React OS is having? I understand they are doing Kickstarter fundraising drive.

React OS is planned, they hope, to be a free OS that can run Windows programs as if it were Windows itself. No third-party emulator to be needed although they have borrowed code from WINE.

If they ever release something, I would love to see it.

What is this, a new Obama slogan?

RE: I’ll wait until my Windows 7 wears out before I upgrade to Windows 8.

You might be on time for Windows 9 by then. :)

From the countdown clock, it looks like they’re going to fall short of the $120k needed to launch:

Sure sounds interesting...

I think they can launch with less, probably. I assume they have some padding. Like Scotty always did with the warp drives

Exactly so when you add STart8 to the mix you have win7 UI 100% plus all the other benefits of win8.

No way would that fly (I think). I’m sure they would be tied up in patent litigation forever.

Nothing says ‘professional’ like a Windows 8 tile to MSN reading ‘Inside Justin Beiber’s Marijuana-Fuelled Party Plane’ broadcast to the client’s executive staff.

I see this all the time. I wonder about people like that. Are they such techno dunces that they can't figure out how to change their home page to their company's website?

If it uses no proprietary software it would eventually pass scrutiny of any court. But how much would the process cost and how much time would it take?
